1200 DVT No Power To Ducati/garmin Sat Nav

  1. I've lost power to my satnav from the cradle on the bike. I’ve had the left hand panels off and found the 2.5A fuse for it and that’s intact. I’m touring at the moment so don’t have a lot in the way of equipment to test. I’m not sure where the feed goes back to after leaving the fuse but all other fuses on the bike are ok.
Sat Nav was dealer fitted from new. 2015 bike.
Anything obvious I should be looking at?

  2. Power supply for the sat nav which I guess is in the cradle. Does the cradle have a fuse?

  3. Connection goes from cradle (no fuse) to what I assume is the Garmin transformer which is under the left hand panel then straight into a 2.5 amp in line fuse. After that it disappears into the loom. The garmin transformer is a sealed unit.

  4. Only thing you can try on the road is to try the cradle directly to the battery by uncovering the wires and holding it. If that works, it’s loom up to the connector that’s the issue. My betting is on the cradle though as the switched power supply is simple and unlikely to go wrong.

  5. Have a look at the spring loaded pins on the cradle. Not unknown for them to either get stuck in or broken/bent. If the former some WD40 or similar might work to free it up.

  6. Cheers Bumpkin. That’s exactly what it was. Thought I’d checked those. Didn’t have any wd40 but a bit of chain lube and some prodding with a pen knife did the trick.

  7. That's good news. Stuff like that on tour is pretty frustrating. Give it a dose of Servisol Switch Cleaner or something similar when you can. Thicker stuff like chain lube, even wd40, will gum up with other crud over time and make it happen again. Have a good remainder of your trip.
