No Rear Damping - Rebuildable?

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by mileypau, Apr 1, 2015.

  1. well it lives......see other posts for resurrected 900sport

Engine TLC belts, shims, plugs. The beauty fired up. New chain and sprockets.

First run up the road tracking beautifully ..... But bouncy as a bouncy thing. Had damping on mid point. Don't think there's any there at all.

So are the shocks rebuild able?...cost, who etc. All the usual questions.

Any other model slot straight in? Just if summat comes up on fleabay

Btw its sport so no ohlins shock. What are they Showa? Blue knurled compresson damping, screw at bottom for rebound damping.

Would be nice to pick up an alloy swing arm and ohlins if anyone has one

    Cheers

  2. Can't comment unless it is a carbed SS................I suggest research the shocks (most are rebuildable) but swapping out the swingarm may mean the OEM shock is not suitable as I found out eventually using Ducati's own information.

  3. Pretty sure it'll be rebuildable. Reactive are in your part of the world, aren't they? Might be worth a phone call.

Mines carbed (Sachs Boge sock) and I decided not to bother as the cost of rebuilding (getting on 200 notes with post and all) compared to a decent aftermarket one didn't stack up. To be fair, if it had been in better nick I probably would have done but even rebuilt it would have looked like a 20 year old shock...

  4. cheers Mick

that's what I wanted to hear. Figured with labour n all it'd be 200 notes or so.

    Will go second hand route

Boy's gone off on it for an MOT fail in any case. No pass no fee, just to check all else out. I rode it first time last night and bounced down the road.....everything else seems fine but worth getting the ticket if any advisories etc.

btw am talking on here to someone about a second hand one.

    Brilliant forum this :)

  5. Good stuff!

I took a VTR1000 to Nogaro for a week with no damping whatsoever (didn't know that before I sent it over on the truck). Was pretty entertaining to say the least.... :)

    Mick..

  6. Yep, Hagon. A brand new shock built to your weight and riding style will only cost £300.

  7. Many thanks to Hejira858

Replacement original for a fair price and we're away.....a good excuse to take a run up to South Yorkshire by way of most of Lincolnshire in yesterday's sunshine. Shock swop in 10' and we're away.

Thanks all for the posts on next steps - it's my son's budget on this one, so he can add to the list of upgrades having now fallen in love with this bike. Such great handling - and the sound of it; wow

  8. On the old Yahoo SS forum, there was a post by a guy who'd fitted a s/h Fireblade unit.
It needed some fettling to fit but he reckoned it made a world of difference...
