No Spark Or Injection

  1. I have a multistrada 1100s,after the starter motor failed, worn out brushes, which I repaired with new brushes from electrex. IT would'nt start on further investigation there was no spark or injection, going through a multitude of tests with a multimeter set at 200 ohms I discovered there was a slight resistence of 10ohms between the engine and the battery the same between battery and the heatsink of the E.C.U. On stripping down the negetive battery connecter it was full of corrosion. Having cleened the end of all the wires and the connecter I crimped them back together and used plumbers solder to make a better more robust connection use a blow torch to make a good joint, then tape the end up with self amalgamating tape (halfords sell it ) to stop it corroding again.
Ducati use a form of earth return or star earthing, where all the earth wires come back to a single point, which is the negative battery terminal any corrosion inside this terminal can cause all sorts of strange electrical problems, from poor running to poor tick over, and occasional stopping.
plus poor cranking in severe cases.A word of warning the voltages that control the spark and injection are quite small so never put a new earth wire from battery to E.C.U without first making shure the battery earth connecter is working properly as it could draw other earth currents through your E.C.U and blow it up.whilst you are at it you may as well check the other big cables from the battery to selanoid to starter and the earth lead engine end.solder them all and wrap with the same tape to keep the corrosion at bay. I hope this has been of some help.Best of Luck John.

  2. And breathe, Dave. Welcome btw :)
