1260 No Torque And Glitchy Throttle Response

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Themarshy, Aug 4, 2019.

  1. Hi there,

I've recently bought a 1260 S Touring Multistrada - 2018 model. Something is just not right with it. It's got a hole in the power below about 5k and it actively hesitates in low revs before starting to pull. It's also very difficult to keep a trace throttle and remain at a set pace; I get surges and drop-offs in the power delivery. I used to own a 2011 Multistrada and that ripped my arms off and gave instant torque in any gear at any rev. I can't believe the new model is meant to be like this.

I'm thinking a new exhaust (it's bog-standard at the moment) and maybe an engine remap might sort it out? Any recommendations or advice would be welcome.

  2. Have you check the valve isnt stuck shut? Common issue that prevents higher revs.

  3. I'm mechanically inept! How do I do that? Although, it's fine at higher revs when I give it some welly, just gutless below about 5k

  4. I've noticed that as well.

  5. If you bought it new, take it back and if not, take it in and get it checked on the diagnostic and then ask them to do a TPS and Auto Adaptive reset.
I have not ridden the 1260 but it is supposedly way better than my 1200dvt. Maybe ask to test ride a 1260 from the shop to see if it is the same?

  6. In touring or urban, the throttle setting is laggy. So big wide open action takes a while.

Stick it in sport. If it still feels lacking and stutters, as above back to dealer.

  7. I would also say the exhaust valve is stuck or sticking

My 1260 pulls hard and smooth in all modes, but then I have removed the crappy exhaust valve!

  8. I've tried all the options - yesterday I spent 5 hours blatting around in Touring mode which is what I used on my old 2011 model all the time. Same problem. I've booked it in to Pro Twins in Godstone now for a fettle and new exhaust. Hopefully that should do the trick. Thanks for the advice!

  9. Yeah - the consensus is that it could be a valve issue. I'll get it looked at. Cheers.

  10. IMO you should not take a bike that's misperforming and start bolting / mapping changes... get the standard bike running spot on before making "improvements". It's an expensive premium bike and should run cock-on out of the box. If it doesn't then that's a manufacturing or other warranty-invoking issue. Masking an existing issue with performance parts is the express route to madness.

  11. That was exactly what Pro Twins said actually! They're going to fix it first, then add the new exhaust on just in case it's a problem elsewhere in the bike.

  12. Good result!

  13. New exhaust at your cost? if it’s the valve, it’s a 50p fix you can do yourself!

  14. I wanted the new exhaust anyway! It just doesn't sound like Ducati should sound with the stock exhausts...
