Noisey Exhausts

  1. I know many people moan about noisey exhausts, usually on bikes like ours, but last night I was driving down the M6 around Knutsford/Holmes Chapel area when a matt black Ferrari & a matt metallic green M3 or 4 passed me. The BM had the most horrendously noisey exhaust I've ever heard, I did wonder if it had open pipes on it, it was that loud.:joy:

Absolutely loved it, it made me laugh for miles & a great start to my shift at 56mph !!:upyeah:
God knows what it was like inside the car !!

  4. I’d imagine a mega loud exhaust would soon get tedious when you’re driving the bugger....

  5. My neighbour Steve has a Speed Triple. He bought it with a race system on and it’s loud. He’s had it 9 months and after the initial pleasure of the noise it’s become too much for him so yesterday he decided to chop it in for this, as it’s quieter

Nice to see it comes with its very own pedal bin attached. These Germans think of everything ;)

  6. The location (Knutsford) suggests it’s more likely to have been footballers.

  7. I watched about 60 seconds of Moto E yesterday and racing is awful without noise.

  8. I have recently sold my diavel 1260, it had the termi fitted. I wanted the termi to sort out the low rpm issues and fuelling which it did brilliantly, the noice was loud and loved at first but after 30 minutes of riding it was just an unpleasant drone that I hated. I had a few other issues that just tipped me over the edge and so I sold it. Now have the new speed triple 1200 RS which is quiet. Not sure if it’s age but I like a nice sounding exhaust but I don’t like loud any more.

Think some of it is down to the scooter noobs with open cans and stupid idiots on off road bikes riding around with no gear but are stupidly loud. I hear them and think f*****ing idiots, then thought what must mine sound like.

  9. IMO single bangers on open pipes sound absolutely dreadful - like blowing a giant raspberry at a similar volume to a Saturn V launch.

  10. Rode my Laverda with Jota cans on to Paul Ricard in 79. Took about two days for the whistling to stop

  11. I'll take your word as i just don't follow football or the players where they live etc.:upyeah:

  12. taking my SFV4S to MHP tomorrow to get 'better' baffles for the akra. cost a fortune and after 2.5k miles just don't want so much noise. local dealer wanted £350 for new akra baffles!!!! which still only get it down to 107db so useless for track days let alone day to day. you'd think that for what ducati/akra charge for slip ons these days you would get a range of baffle options included :joy:

  13. The M3/4 exhausts sound beautiful
Surprisingly quiet inside but loud enough to appreciate the tune :D
My boy has a friend with a 3 and another friend with a nice exhaust on his BM
Makes me smile when they go off down the road with exhaust beating a tune

  14. Rode my GSX1100 through the Mont Blanc tunnel many years ago, the noise of the Harris straight through 4 into 1 became very tedious, very quickly.
A year or two later I was complimented by some Germans when I parked up at the top of the Col de Galibier "we have been listening to your music for the last 20 minutes".

  15. It’ll be a sad day when everything goes electric and you can’t make dogs bark, children cry and old people wave their sticks in anger at a noisy exhaust :(

  16. Nor set off car alarms as my 851 did back when I was a nipper. :)

  17. My 899 is loud enough for me with the standard exhaust on, it has been de-flappered though and to be honest, I wouldn’t mind if it was a touch quieter  ?

I hate it when someone with a knackered old rat bike IL4 with a straight through race can on comes screaming through a built up area, gets us all a bad name, Joe public thinks we’re all tossers

  18. I think it's been proved they don't, if youre filtering through traffic most drivers don't know you're there until you are right along side.
Most of them are on the phone with the radio on or with ear buds in.
Windows down maybe, convertable definately, normal cars or vans, doubtful.

  19. Sound travels faster than we can, therefore loud pipes save lives, it's a fact, science says so.

  20. This is a well worn topic on here, apply all the science you want, don't think there's much proof to back it up.
