Non Starting SS

  1. Hi Folkes,

My bike will not start, not much info i know but here are the symptoms.

Bike running fine off the button, ticks over for a couple of mins, then i swich it off to adjust my scottoiler.

Go to start up again, pump pumps, can hear fuel in the tank, press the starter zip, nothing nada, no change in pitch of the pump??

The runstop is at run, in neutral, all is as it was 5 mins before.

What i have done soo far

1 disconnect the alarm, so now does not affect anything. No change
2 Remove the runstop switch and put a screwdriver over the contacts of the start switch No change
3 Check all fuses No issues
4 check batterty terminals for loose connections no issues.

What can i try now ?????

Am kind of lost and scratching my head, any ideas ??

  2. Iff its not turning over at all , on the 748 series of bikes there is a small 2 pin plug at the back of the selenoid that can come loose. Worth a look.

  3. Could be the starter solenoid sticking, happens to mine sometimes.

If your's is a carby SS then you'll find the solenoid rubber mounted to the frame roughly ajacent to your right knee (if you're sitting on the bike, generaly doesn't work if you're not).

Give the solenoid a tap with something solid then try the button.

If this is no good you can bridge the big connections on the solenoid, then at least you'll know the starter is working (or not). Can't remember if there's a fuse between the button and the solenoid but am certain there isn't between battery/solenoid/starter.

    Good luck.

  4. Thanks guys,

I found the problem, when i removed the vacum hose i gave it a pull, and i had pulled out the 2 pin cable out of the solinoid all now working

I can now put it all back together :upyeah:
