Saturday 12.50 BBC 2 is the Antony Hopkins film "Worlds Fastest Indian", not a ducati but a V twin and a very good film for all bikers.
the replicas in the film apparently had ducati motors in them his book one good run is a great read and the film and the giveaway dvd documentary about from some magazine and both great viewing
I quite like the new Indians. If I ever find myself fat and bearded with more money than sense I just might.. More poke than a Hardly Ableton too.
Nice Sat afternoon viewing it was too. Inspired me to venture into the garage for the first time in weeks.
In reality he was a cantankerous, sexist (handsy), stubborn old bastard, but he did achieve a lot "his" way .
How is that different to many old duffers back in his day? He reminded me of the old boy I used to live next door to who although would grump and groan, he would still take the time and interest to help me fix my scooters. As long as I went to the shops for him to get him some baccy. But as for Bert he was just a man of his times. I still think he was awesome.
No different to a lot of old fella's, yes, but the film didn't show any of that, he pissed off all his neighbours etc regularly, tearing up and down the street at all hours and such like, by most accounts not a people person, a bit of a loner. I know/knew several ol' timers that knew and competed with/against Burt in various forms of m/cycling so it's from 1st hand knowledge. But in no way should it detract from his achievements, and what they and the film have done for motor cycling and the community since the films release here in Southland.
That sounds like a lot of bikers lol Where I used to live they constantly complained about the noise of my 749 and I was only using it in daylight hours
