So, I am, hopefully, returning to the fold, having owned a gorgeous red 748 many years ago. I loved it but it just beat me up too much when I foolishly attempted to commute in and out of London on it, so I let it go. I have never quite forgiven myself for that, so I am now having the mother of all dithers between an 899 and the new 959 (which I won't be commuting on either way). It will be used mainly on the road, although I may give it a go on a track one day. Leaning heavily towards the 899 at present - while the 959 may be a slightly better bike, those cans are such a clumsy afterthought, they really spoil it for me. I should also be able to pick up a good, low mileage 899 for a few grand less than the new 959, which is not to be sniffed at. Any guidance here would be much appreciated - I have pretty much exhausted the internet researching it all, which helps and confuses in equal measure..... Anyway, hello and I will let you all know what transpires.
welcome, and I personally would look for the 899 with a few extras on. while the 959 may be superior handling, acceleration, braking, etc, will a regular ride really notice the difference? you will notice a couple of £k in your arse pocket, though.
