Hi guys, Could really do with some advice, I purchased a 2003 Monster 1000sie back in June that had been stood up for a long while couple of years, only done 1000 miles in last 10 years by mots. The problem I having is it will not rev out engine bogs like it’s hitting rev limiter at 7k which as far as I’m aware is way to low. I have changed fuel filters, coils , injectors. When I first got the bike it ran really badly but after changing the fuel filters this got a lot better, it pulls fine up to 7k but then nothing, also if throttle held at half throttle whilst ridding it can bog then as well, but fine when you open throttle fully. Am I right in thinking it’s the throttle position sensor that’s causing this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as starting to do my head in now. Many thanks Jon
I think you need to check to see if the throttle is actually opening all the way, there might be something stopping it or someone might have tried to restrict it. Throttle position sensor normally work or don.t sounds like yours is ok. Sound more like fuel related than ignition side though, is the fuel pump got clean terminal and good voltage, battery all goods? checked earths on bike .Air filter and box clean, with no mice nests inside?
It doesn’t have the exhaust valve on Simon, have checked air filter changed it for open top and closed. It has Termis on it not standard pipes don’t suppose that would make any difference? Fuel pump was fine as had it out when changed the filter on end of it. Drained tank out as that was crappie. I have covered around 1500 miles on it since I have had it, put injector cleaner in many times then changed them in case as well. I will have a look to see if throttle is opening fully. Thanks for suggestions guys.
When you changed the fuel filter, did you examine the fuel lines for cracks or splits? A split fuel line would give you the problem you are experiencing, as the pump would be unable to deliver fuel to the injectors at the required pressure at larger throttle openings.
Are the breathers in the tank cap all clear? If partially blocked, or restricted, could create your symptoms.
easy to test with riding (in a straight line) with fuel filler open... But I would have thought that after a refuel it would be OK for a few miles until vacuum built.... if it was the breather... but definately worth the check... I had a similar issue 34 years ago of a 50cc honda 4 stroke... CB50J exhaust was blocked.. well someone had dented the pipe and filled it so you could not see the dent....probably not your issue though...
i would try filling the tank to the top and going for a ride and seeing if there is a difference, as my old 748 had a similar issue and the tank internal pipes were porous and not holding pressure. you will see if any bubbles are formed i think with the tank cap open.
Keith916 not as I’m aware, i will have a look at the suggestions you guys have come u with at the weekend. Thanks for your help
