Not Yet An Owner, But Soon (long Post)

  1. Hi all, thanks for letting me in.

    I don't currently have a Ducati, I have an 18 Honda CBR1000RR SP and a 17 BMW S1000RR Superstock.

Both of them are track bikes and for those who may be wondering, the BMW is an absolute weapon and I am between 1 & 3 seconds faster on any track with it.

I can just push and push until i run out of Kahoonas!!

BuTT!!!! It is just so wooden and business like, it sets out to do a job and does it. Simple.

However the fireblade is sublime, such a beautiful handling bike, goes where you point it, masks errors, wheelies everywhere :p.
Every time I ride it I am satisfied.

It is lightened a lot and in track form my bike weighs 183kg ready to roll.

The downside is that it isn't as powerful, it's fast and nimble but no top end power.

I don't know if the chassis would cope with more power or if it will just tie itself in knots.

Which brings me to the Ducati.

I want to get a V4 because I don't really fancy anything else out there. It's taken me a while to think about this because the general feeling around a track is 'he has a Ducati he must be loaded, bet he can't ride it'. Or 'Why buy a Ducati if he can't ride it fast'. This is what you get, people think you HAVE to be the fastest if you buy a Ducati, but why should it be so? No-one says anything when someone turns up with a new gen 4 BMW but goes in Novice, or if there's an R1m mooching about in the intermediate group so why can't a Ducati rider just buy his bike and enjoy it to his ability, whether he/she is in novice or sharp end of fast group?
I must admit I was the same and when I started thinking of buying the bike my 1st though was 'am I fast enough for it?'
At the end of the day it's a bike like any other, it looks beautiful and hopefully it's well put together and reliable.

The only other thing I want to say is I prefer the looks of the 1199, 1299 era.

So I will be keeping these 2 bikes until the end of the season and then looking for a new bike for the start of next year.

  2. Welcome to the forum.:)

  3. Welcome, if you have that level of track experience, the Ducati will suit you well. Oh & almost everyone prefers the looks of the 1199 series to its newer more lardy brother!

  4. The V4 looks like a Honda VFR800. But without the build quality.

  5. No one thought any of those things when I got my 600SS having never ridden 13 years ago.
Because you think like that you think others do too so un learn your thinking buy the bike you want and ride on your own to start with
Many riders rode in the DD series not being rich @bradders

  6. I suspect I am the one pootling around in the novice group that they are talking about :motorcycleduc: (except I'm not loaded)

I go on the track to enjoy my bike in a way I can't on the road, but I'm not out to break any records.

It's all good, and it sounds like you're a fast rider anyhow, so get the bike you want and enjoy it without getting in anyone else's way, and live your best life.

    Welcome!

  8. Ducati is a bit more expensive to run but imho it’s part of the owner experience to ride something you like even if you may be a tad faster on something else.

If you’re chasing lap times, buy something else. If your chasing a grin and experience, stick with Ducati;)

  9. Welcome and enjoy

  10. There it is, bloke says his BMW is faster than his Honda, and automatically he thinks he's Scott Redding. My BMW was way stronger at the top end than my 1299 is. As to which is faster down a fast B road, I don't know.

  11. Welcome to the forum

  12. I don't know how you managed to get that out of my statement. I was just stating a fact. The fact that I am thinking of getting a Ducati has nothing to do with speed or power, just that I fancy something new and nothing else catches my eye right now. My bikes were always going to be sold end of this year. In fact the BMW has now been sold.
