Just had an e-mail from MSV highlighting their programme of novice only and novice track taster sessions. Might be of interest to those considering putting their toe in the water and the prices look good too. Andy
this looks ideal as i want to try a track session but dont want to go on a big boys session. I still worry about throwing the bike down the track though
If you go to the Oulton Park one on the 6th Feb I'll be there in my car, gave a few passenger laps to bikers last time Most of the novice days are split into 3x20minute sessions every hour. Two sessions for cars and one session for bikes.
at normal days dont you get the guys who like a ego trip by going in novice who should be higher usually?
You get it at both. Some people use novice days as testing their new equipment, some are novices, some just fancy blasting past everyone, some go with friends who are novices but they aren't. Overall you'll get slower riders at a novice specific day, but you'll still get quick people.
Always be a mixed bag in whatever group, would imagine the OP event would be the same. I'm novice and I feel heroic at times, as well as a lumbering old oxen!
I felt like that when I did the ducatisti track day it was easier knowing the people I was with were my friends It's still daunting having people over take you on both sides when your concentrating Believe me I AM as novice as you can get I was the slowest of the 4 girls there so much so they lapped me many times I hated every minute of the first time out I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing Second time out I followed an instructor and it was amazing loved it Would I do it again hmmmm maybe I did find that my bike could do more than I thought it could For me there should be a beginners track day then novice
I only really started doing track days last year and its amazing how quickly it hooks you in. I started in Novice for a couple of events event, then inters for a couple and now to the fast group. Im slower than average in the Fast group but it feels more comfortable to me as everyone knows what they are doing and tends to be on the right line (most of the time). If you're in Novice or just starting out, just concentrate on getting your lines right and the speed will come. Grab an instructor as early in the day as you can and follow them to make sure you're in the right place on the track at the right time. As theres a lot of first timers out there, be aware that they may not do what you expect them to do...give everyone space. I'm sure there will be others along with more tips from a lot more experience, but the above worked for me when starting out. Just be careful....I now have a track bike and trailer and I can't wait for the Spring!
^ Yup - it's more addictive then Heisenberg's good stuff! I was told before I started track days that you're safer on a track than on a road, I would tend to agree with that now, although there's always the odd kamikaze pilot!
id like to buy a cheaper sportbike for the odd outing but cant justify it unles i know i like it and will have days free to do them.... Suppose i could take my monster as thats worth £6k not the £15k of my 1199 but maybe a bit underpowered ontrack
All the fun is in the corners, you don't need anything with daft power on a track to have fun, especially as a novice. More chance of overcooking it into a corner.
but on this you appear to be getting 2 x cars out then bikes. ....With the cars throwing gravel and shoit over the tarmac from where they cut the inside of a corner cos they can....with no track sweep like you would get before a complete bikes day...
