  1. So took the 749s out for first time in months for an MOT
    the standard plate annoys me.
what size do i get to to replace it? one that has all the characters on one line or something smaller than existing but on two lines?

  2. 7 x 5 mate. I leave my std sized plate at the mot station for legal purposes! :)

  6. 7x5’s won’t , or even if they do they won’t be legal. However I run 7x5’s on most my bikes and it’s the smallest plate you can get away with and not attract attention. I’ve had numerous police behind me at traffic lights or talking bikes at meets and never ever had the plate mentioned. Any smaller and you’re asking for it IMO.

  7. I use JDM Plates...

Small Legal Number Plates For Motorcycles consisting of the smallest legal sizes within the UK. Here is a quick sizing guide:-

228x164:- This size is smaller than a generic 9x7 and will accommodate all registration numbers for motorcycles.

194x164 - This size motorbike number plate is for registration numbers that contain a number 1 in the larger group of characters. For example AB16 as opposed to AB66 within the wider group of digits.

174x164 - This size motorbike number plate is for registration numbers that contain a maximum of 3 characters in the larger group of characters. For example ABC as the wider group of characters

I have 194 x164 and it's small enough and legal.

  11. Not sure anyone here can help with your 'tug' issues but thanks for sharing anyway.

  12. I've got a 9*3 on my 1098, never been stopped for it, police have never said a thing when they've been behind me when filling up with fuel and it was legible enough for me to be papped by a camera van last summer.

  13. I am particularly proud of this effort for the Euro carnet police.

  14. I just trimmed my plate to exactly legal - 11mm from numbers/letters at the top & sides - when I fitted my Evotech tail tidy and it looks 'small'...

  15. I don't know about other places but Devon & Cornwall Police used to be really keen on reg plates.
I got a £60 fine a few years ago - legal size plate, legal size lettering, legal spacing, just italic letters...
The same plate had already passed three MoT's - just because it doesn't get picked up by the MoT inspector doesn't, necessarily, mean it's legal for road use.

  17. Its a £100 fine (up from £60). I call it my vanity tax. I get a fine once every two yrs roughly. I have a small letterbox 8x3 style one (I think)

  18. I've run a 7x5 for years, smaller font but otherwise legal looking - never had any problems.

  19. i was riding with a mate down the North Devon Link Road when we got pulled, the copper got arsey over his plate which was 7x5 and after preaching about Devon and Cornwall’s prioritising motorcycle safety he booked him for an illegal plate. I kept my mouth shut and my 7x5 plate didn’t attract his attention.
