i have a standard size (ie massive) plate and a piece of red reflective stuff stuck onto it to satisfy the gov what are you folks doing to remain legal and smarten things up a bit - specifically talking about the plate and reflector not anything else!
Small (ish) plate siliconed on as plastic fixing screws look naff. Sleek led indicators and the Italian reflector on underneath and you’re good to go. Don’t forget a bit of tape ove the white and green for the mot!
i already have an 8x6 plate - do the characters need to be on 2 lines. many moons ago i had a 'show' plate with all characters on a single line. didnt get pulled by police but i think i could have
I use one of these stuck to my numberplate at the bottom in the centre. Although I think I brought them from a local motor factors. They satisfy my MOT man. Actually, I collected a bike from him a number of years ago that I'd not put a reflector on and he'd put one on to pass it. He tells me it needs to be in the centre.
For the first time ever. I have a standard number plate and stock reflector on the Multistrada. I run small plates on sports bikes, but on the Multi - well its hardly streamlined anyway
having been nicked for small (very) plates in the past, have found that 7x5 is optimum size and seems to avoid plod. and never had MOT problem. standard size are an affront on the eyes on any bike
Single line number plates are illegal, there isn’t a law that prohibits a size of the plate. It is the size and spacing that dictate the plates size.
What did you get for the "small (very) plates" , a small fine or a slapped wrist? I had a MOT failure due to incorrect plate size -I've never been back to the tossers place since.
There isn’t a small number plate offence, the size and spacing of the letters dictates the size of your plate. Effectively you’re being prosecuted/warned for the letter sizing. It may well be that there is a plate size requirement for a MOT pass. https://www.newreg.co.uk/services/dvla_number_plates/acrylic_plate_rules/ https://begin-motorcycling.co.uk/motorcycle-number-plates/
My MOT place told me that the number plate size together with the noise of the exhaust is NOT an MOT issue. I suppose if you were excessive, then there is probably a "catch all" that they could get you on, but my ST3 has Ducati Performance exhausts which are a bit LOUD! I pointed this out at last MOT time, as I am helpful like that! I was told that he wasn't interested, by the MOT tester!
That would be fine and I would of course accept it, but the rules are contained here: https://assets.publishing.service.g...stration-numbers-and-number-plates-inf104.pdf My plate conformed except for some nonsense about who issued it/ made it. Nothing to do with "too small" . The following five MOT people have not had an issue, neither have any MOT testers ever had an issue with my car plates which are also made without the makers name (he is in Japan). So is the guy a tosser or not? LOL!
I had a car MOT a while back, was informed that my tyres were an advisory for the MOT but illegal should I be stopped on my way home. Other anomalies exist I should imagine.
