With plastic nuts & bolts they should never come undone, i don't care how fast you travel from A to B or i've i missed the joke.
Completely “plastic-nutted”. I don’t know how it came off, or where! Going to add Loctite on the next one.
I once lost the number plate off my Moto Martin GSX11, it was a home made piece of ali sheet fastened onto some ali brackets with a couple of coach bolts. Anyway it disappeared one day while I was on holiday having a blast along a road near Bergerac. I continued the rest of my holiday and returned to north lincolnshire, about 7 more days, without ever attracting any interest from the authorities. Ah, them were the days
They do. I’ve had it happen loads, mostly u]losing just one bolt but they vibe out if they aren’t new
I think it's disgusting, all that effort our underpaid overworked traffic cops put in ensuring we have the correct sized number plate with all the correct spacing to make sure we are safe on the road and you just laugh about yours falling off. You are free to put your own life at risk but give a thought to other road users who may skid and crash on your discarded number plate
I used to work with bloke who crashed his bike on a discarded crisp packet (one of the foil type) he was hooning along, tipped into a corner, got target fixation and braked on it and lost the front.
One of my riding instructors had a similar fate. Pulled into a long layby at abt 50 and braked on a flattened drinks can. Ouch.
Yep, as already said, don’t use Loctite, certain plastics hate it causes environmental stress cracking, even worse if it gets near polycarbonate. My, solution… Two nuts and then melt the end of the nuts and bolts with a soldering iron so they bond together Apologies for the dirt under my number plate …..and if you’re wondering what the hell a Ducati sticker is doing under there,…..rearward facing GoPro shots !
God your bike is so much tidier than mine considering we have the same mileage, mind you mine was crashed twice by previous owners and the last one was allergic to cleaning it….and buying tyres…..and buying brake pads
Im sure a member on here crashed on a number plate not too long ago, I had a near miss with one a few months back too.
Don’t beat yourself up @Zeus I’ll let you off the hook here because that photo of the GoPro setup was taken in 2015, only a year after I got the bike and before I threw loads of carbon fibre etc at it.. Including BST’s and Galfer wavey disc.. I virtually never use that GoPro setup now, cos …what’s the word I’m looking for ..oh yes I just can’t be arsed ! I have to say, the bike still looks pretty damn good for it’s age / mileage, finish quality has held up really well, plus I’m an anal polisher….. no wait,.. that doesn’t sound right ! How many miles is on your bike then?..I’m well over 33,000 miles with mine now !!
True. Plastic nuts and bolts will work loose with vibration. Velcro or that plastic lock tape stuff works best. Negates the vibration.
That’s refreshing!..someone having more miles on than me, good job P.S. ..still haven’t seen pics of your Ridgebacks
