Obdstar Iscan Ducati

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by DRR117, Jul 28, 2022.

  1. Thought I’d pop a little thread on as just bought a OBDSTAR iScan Ducati which arrived this morning.

I might have to read the instructions to get the best out of it, but a simple code read to find out why I have an engine light on worked well. So I’m happy so far. Now just need to fix it :joy:

  2. Makes me wonder if my foxwell one would work on mine. It’s it std obd port?

  3. Standard OBD on the unit yeah, then a OBD to ducati DDA port lead. :upyeah:

  4. It isn't, no. Depending on model it's either a proprietary three pin connector or 4 pin connector. The Ducati version of the OBDStar comes with both leads.

Though you may be able to get an adapter for your reader you'll still need specific software. If yours is a high end unit then that might be an option as a download. Though if it's a car unit I doubt it.

  5. Its great these things (I have one too) can identify the issue ...but what the hell do they actually mean, and more importantly how do we fix it lol? :D :D

  6. Mine is a car one but it has downloadable software. I’ll go have a look

  7. Checked their website and nope alas cars only.

  8. The same ECU and Sensors are used on a lot of Fiats and Alfas, find one with the same ECU and use it for fault code finding?

  9. I may see if I can get a lead and try it, it will read general codes with the core software just not many specific ones. Probably worth a tenner for a lead

  10. On the post DVT's you can read/reset most codes with a laptop and the free Ducatidiag software available from JP at Melcodiag.
You still need a connection lead of course.
Those will not do any service resets or add-on enabling though. The program is actually better for earlier bikes. I kind of struggled with my later DVT setup
That's why I bought an OBDstar device at 400 quid ;) That does most anything you could ask of it (except actually fixing the issue of course)

  11. I really need to bite the bullet, get cheap or used laptop and learn how to use the diag stuff. I still need to load a map on my S4 and it has an engine light too: I could do with knowing why!

  12. I dont think the Diag stuff will do that for you?

  13. Do you know if its capable of enabling the DMS Bluetooth module? Not sure I'd want to spend £400 just for that. Pity you can't rent them for a day.

  14. Which bike? Guessing, with Bluetooth, it's an MTS of some description? The coverage of what you can do varies depending on which specific model. For the 1200DVT MTS there do seem to be a few functions missing, the 1260 seems more complete though I don't recall seeing the activation that you're asking about listed (needs to be plugged into the bike)*. Dropped my 1260 off for it's Desmo service this morning so probably wont have it back for at least a week otherwise I'd offer to plug in and see, if it's the appropriate model. The V4 MTS isn't included yet.

You can see from the attached spec (this is downloadable from the manufacturers website, under the 'Function Manual' tab) that, for my bike at least, activations are available but it doesn't specify which ones. As said; plugging into the diagnostics port of the bike is required to see what specifically can be done.

  15. OK thanks. I am pretty sure bluetooth for the DMS module can be activated. (at least on their website it lists the Panigale V4 as one of the supported models). I specifically need to find out if you can allocate the DMS module to your bike's VIN number, which the dealer did to my module (using a Multistrada) before I fitted it to my bike, so as well as enabling bluetooth I will need to change the recorded VIN number. Maybe this is beyond the scope of the OBDStar.

Hopefully DRR117 can shed some light, as he has a Panigale V4

  16. Differences between specific models/years... Looks like activations will work for 2018 model but currently not 2020...

Best to find someone close by who has one of these diagnostic tablets.

  17. It's got a whole bunch of other diagnostic stuff on there that would be useful to have at your disposal and have just had it confirmed it will activate the DMS module, once VIN is detected. I pulled the trigger and ordered one today. £388 delivered which is not bad. I might even offer to rent it out as a service for forum members.

  18. Having also conversed with the very helpful vendor. New features and updates are always in the pipeline. We specifically asked for a foglight enable on the 1200's which is apparently being added :)

  19. OBDStar unit arrived this morning. Have registered and updated it. Will connect it up to the bike later with an update on how it worked out.

  20. OK I managed to enable the bluetooth function on the bike with the OBDStar unit and read the DMS module, however the VIN number stored on it, is that of the bike the dealer connected it to, to originally activate the DMS module. The only way to erase that is at the dealer and reset it to my own VIN. It does not seem to make much difference in terms of functionality though, as the Ducati Connect app lets me pair my phone with my bike and all the dash functions, such as Last Calls, Player On/Off etc, all work as described. I will have them correct it when I eventually take the bike in for any software updates and to load the Akra exhaust map. There is evidently a lot of functionality on the OBDStar unit and under the 'Special Functions' menu, you can enable/disable a number of items even reset the odometer, though I cannot condone it, if you do. There are also a number of other features you can use, but these may potentially carry some risk to the ECU, so I am leaving them well alone. It is most likely of interest if you want to reset or clear existing error codes, such as a DQS malfunction or a service light or removing an evap canister or Ex servo light error code (likely seen after fitting a different exhaust system). Normally the updated software (such a the T800 or Akra map) will take care of these codes but if you are fitting something else such as a Spark or Arrow system, this may be of some benefit.
