916 Octane

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by PAB, Apr 22, 2019.

  1. After reading a few articles on Garage Pump Premium fuel, verses regular graded fuel, and no benefits found, and also you should simply use what is recommended in the manual, I decided to have a look for said information.

I couldn't find a reccomended specified Octane .....Also referring to a Haynes manual, no recommendation.

Can I also say that everything I thought I knew about Octane and improved performance etc is supposedly wrong hahah....

    Comments please.......

  2. 95 or 98ron ...premium has longer "shelf life" so if not used for 1-2 months go for premium.

  3. I get premium on 1 to 4 ratio for the detergents

  4. Esso:
    Synergy Supreme+ premium petrol
No ethanol in most areas, simples :):upyeah:

  5. You will not gain performance with higher octane fuel.
I use to drive 100 octane on my SS track bike and i gained no HP with just using the 100 octane over some lower grade.
The only thing it did was running cooler with the 100 octane.
So now we could give it some more compression so that way we gained some HP.

    Henk!!!

  6. You will not get any performance improvement out of super unleaded unless the engine is tuned to suit.
My car however runs knock sensors so while it will run fine on 95 it gives it's full performance on 98.
However a big plus as mentioned earlier is the reduced ethanol content in most 98 fuel some of which has zero content. Good if your storing for some time.

  7. Did you research that this is the lowest available (Garage Pump) ethanol containing fuel as it all seems to be a bit of a grey area for finding our what is exactly in the various brands fuel mix and where it comes from, but thanks for the info.

  8. Anybody got any recommendations for long periods of storing fuel in the tank say a few months or longer as I travel away with work a lot.
Any recommendations on a fuel stabiliser additive also.

  9. Zero Ethanol not lowest, apart from a few areas in the UK

  10. Use a Zero Ethanol fuel?

  11. I have found that Shell Optimax or whatever it's called now, works fine after winter storage but I take care to top the tank up to minimise surface area in contact with air, as well as the total volume of air in the tank.
