Hello guys, I'm going to change front brake pads on my multistrada 1200 (2013) and possibly do a service on calipers too (new seals). I have done it before on a non ABS bike, I have some hesitations about performing that task on the Multi, so I'll go to the dealer. Adding the costs got me thinking of purchasing a set of used monoblock calipers instead, will the extra money worth it? I'm reading that these calipers work best with 17mm m/c, our bike comes with (if I searched correclty) a 15mm m/c. Any thoughts about the mod, I see some Multistradas with aftermarket calipers...
I had the M50's on my old 1200, made a big difference to the braking but you used brake pads up more quickly. You have to modify the brake lines. There is a three on here somewhere about the change.
Here you go, two threads: First one discusses the best way to bleed and replacing callipers https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/brakes.1433/ This one is about the replacement: https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/mts-brake-upgrade.19125/
Put the M50s on last year, with Spiegler lines but kept the original M/C - they’re working just fine, and way better than the originals.
The first link above has my info regarding fitting M4 monoblocks to a pre-DVT bike. The final post on that thread leads to another that has all the info you need, the parts I used listed too. I've had them on two bikes for about 8 years now, and not had any issue. No way would I go back to the standard calipers. You don't need an upgraded master cylinder for M4s, the standard one works just fine. I usually only 2 finger brake and can pretty much put the bike on its nose. If you intend to fit M50s (as the DVT S has) then you may need to change the master cylinder too. I would suggest looking at parts lists for pre-DVT vs DVT S to determine if the master cylinder changed. Hope that helps.
