So I'm looking for routes good roads etc I went to Mugello last year with the other half on the back picked Assen GP on the way down also, bikes a 1200 Multi and it's a mix of spirited and scenic pace usually. I'll be taking the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam at the moment then thinking of heading down to Belgium, maybe into the French mountains (Courchevel etc) maybe Switzerland but I'm not sure I want to stump up €40 or so for probably 1 day each way so may skirt over to Austria then down into Italy maybe Lake Garda maybe Venice for a day then head down towards San Marino/Rimini. Also toying with going further south for a night, maybe Rome etc. What I am after is some ideas on places to visit en-route/stop over and which roads to take to maximise the enjoyment. Thanks
Must admit I'd stick to a French route Jon.......Cherbourg, then down through St Mere Eglise, Carentan, St Lo, Vire, Domfront, Mayenne, Laval, La Fleche, Tours, Poitiers, Limoges, then head across towards Clermont Ferrand, into the Massif Centrale to Le Puy, then head towards Mende and Ales on the N106.......then a blast to the coast at Montpelier, stay over in Palavos les Flots, then head along the coast highway towards La Ciotat, Toulon, Nice, Monaco, and cross the border just beyond Menton.........
I'm going down there too. I will use Hull Zeebruges. At the moment I am favouring a route through France because I want to go to Grasse on the way down. I am going on a 1098
Just a note on the Swiss Tax, it's only for motorway use so as long as you avoid the motorways you don't need a vignette. Just thought that might widen your options.
Well yes, but there are a lot of tunnels in Switzerland and many of them are on motorways. If you do not use any motorway tunnels at all (because no vignette), be prepared to ride over several high passes and thus leave extra time for doing them.
