Hey @Davebird ! Any chance we can have an "Off-Topic" rating, to go with the Funny, Useful, Drama Queen, Agree, etc ratings? Maybe if five or more Off-Topic ratings are received for a given post, the post is semi-hidden from view (a bit like the Nuke mechanic). Yes - I know. I would be the one most affected by this suggestion. But you know, I need to be stopped! A more Mod-intensive alternative might be Reporting off-topic posts, especially for repeat offenders. What's your preference?
I would like to see an end to all ‘off topic’ posts, threads etc. ‘Off topic’ being anything other than Ducati relevant. There are far too many threads with titles such as ‘My dog is on fire’ ‘Someone wasn’t very nice to me at one stage once’ ‘Can I have your wife’s recipe for lemon ice cream’ etc. etc. Hate to break it to you snowflakes, but no one gives a shit! Also far too many threads starting with the word ‘So’ and ending in the word ‘then’, neither of which are necessary grammatical constructs. Too much use of the word ‘of’ as opposed to ‘have’. Too many sentences ending in prepositions; something up with which I will not put and finally, some odious tyke who insists on posting random pictures of his hot girlfriend, although he has tended to calm down a bit lately, since she caught him!
Have you tried placing the Lounge and Speakers Corner Forums on Ignore? You won't see any of those types of posts after that. Or is it more a case of, you don't want anyone to see those kinds of posts? Not sure what your options are, in that case.
I just don’t think they should exist in the first place. There was a post yesterday about buying a frikkin lawnmower ffs!
@JoeC They don’t: how long have you been having these delusions and how do they make you feel? Asking for a friend.
Some of the best threads have been on fixed washing machines, stuck sprockets and lawnmowers. What's life without a bit of fun and banter. You want pure mechanics with no interruptions, go read a Ducati Haynes manual in a library.
Doesn't 3 "Nukes" make a post disappear? Plus there is the report button so already covered isn't it? And nobody forces you to read these threads or posts, just don't read the ones you don't like, along with others I think some of the most entertaining threads are the ones that "drift" off piste!
People (but not some people) may hesitate to use the Nuke button as it can be a bit of a statement (or maybe just a reflex, for some folk). Nukes are theoretically reserved for offensive posts, when they are used as intended. A post may be innocuous/inoffensive whilst being off-topic and "nuking" it may seem to be "rude", or maybe "a sledgehammer to crack a walnut". I had envisaged an Off-topic rating for use when people constantly post content, for which a thread already exists, in a different thread with a different subject. For example, if there was a "What kind of apples are tastiest?" thread, people constantly post about Jaffa oranges there, despite the fact there is an "Orange/Tangerine/Satsuma appreciation" thread. (Sorry Joe C, this bit must be giving you ulcers.) Alternatively, we just use Nukes, and it's up to the nuked poster to work out why he/she/xi got one - assuming they even care : o ) I strongly urge everyone to read this post whilst it is still up as I believe four nukes hides a post and if nothing else in life is guaranteed, there will be at least four nukes incoming : o )
