Went out for a ride today as the sun was shining. Came back through Bristil city centre, engine management light comes on and a "fan error". Called the bike a few choice words, stopped for 10 minutes to let it cool down then away again. The ride out of Bristol towards Riders of Bristol was ok temperature in the high 80's. Let it tick over outside of Riders and on came the light again. Went in and spoke to Mike, no probes he said I will take straight around to the workshop to see what is going on. Half an hour later back comes my bike with Mike smiling, all fixed. Wanted the ground to swallow me when he said "have you just taxed your bike" I have the tax disc on the lower radiator mount and in putting in the new disc it had moved, I do remember that, even tightening up. Anyway the tax disc holder was stopping the fan from turning. I have apologised to my bike. Never too old to learn.
As bad as me wondering whats up with my 1198 new slipper clutch after I installed it. Why did it keep stalling when engaged? I can see that its engaged and disengaged as I pull the lever. FFS? Do I have some plates sticking? So I take it apart again to check. No theyre free. So try again, yet it keeps stalling. WTF! Fucking sidestand. I wouldnt mind if it was the 1st time. But I did the same bloody thing on my 916 years ago. Bit like me bump starting a Lambretta for well over an hour trying to start it without a spark plug in it. I was 16. Dont fret Richard. We can all be a bit dim nowandagain.
If it was a 'fan error' you must have been near the Rovers ground, lots of 'fan errors' there recently - like buying a season ticket for 14/15 season.....
Nice one Richard!..........thanks for sharing, so tempting to keep quiet when you've been in idiot mode.....I usually do! lol
Could be worse, this customer put a new bolt in his mud guard, bike came in as the fork was leaking...
The tax disc is still in the same place, but pointing rearwards much more and tight. In a couple of months I will bin it anyway. Maybe we should have a nationwide burning of tax discs and holders in October.
That I would have kept quiet about, especially to my wife. Bike would had to go in for a "service" Big ouch.
I kick started my KTM 400EXC for half an hour with regular breaks to regain my strength and composure, then the penny dropped, the rule tap was off ! FFS
there is a builder that uses me occasionally for repairs a bit of a gobshite but friendly enough. twice he has brought his vehicles in with grinding noises after he has done his own brake pads. and twice he has put them in the wrong way round..
