From a little bit of research it seems like the Ohlins forks that would be designed to work with the 848 evo would be the FGRT 803 ? But being no expert I wondered if a: this was right and b: are there any other models from other ducatis or other bikes even that will fit and work correctly ?
Are you just looking for golden bling factor? or actually looking to improve things? If its the later you would be better spending you wonga on the Ohlins internal kits and a proper setting up to you weight etc etc
Both ;-) If I could pick up some second hand full forks that would be my preference, just want to know which ones to look out for.
Yes, FGRT803 or, if you want the higher-spec NIX30 equipped ones (Cartridge kit) you'll be after the FGRT210.
As long as they are radial calliper a with 100mm centres, both will work. Either of these forks will work with the 848Evo standard calipers.
is the model number printed somewhere on the forks. i have ohlins on mine but bought the bike with them already on. just curious...
ok. i'll have a scan tomorrow. didn't like the look of them when i first saw the bike. but i'm getting used to seeing them now. i would have preferred the std forks and then change to ohlins to be able to see the benefits. not sure if they're even better than std ones.
The part number is stamped on the inside at the bottom. I have recently changed from the stock showas to a set off a 1198S. I personally don't think in the blind taste test you'd notice a difference. Done a bit of reading and the consensus of opinion is that the std ohlins aren't all that ! You need to spend yet more loot on better springs and valves. I bought mine because I got a good deal and i had been after a set to 'complete' the bike...ompus:
I looked into this last year the FGRT210 are the later version road and track fork to fit 848 and base model 1098/1198, if you get 1098/1198S ohlins forks they won't fit as one of the triple clamps is a different size
Saw this post and had a look at my 848 (2010) non evo and it has FG511 which if i am right is from a 1098s
