I've just been fiddling with the suspension set up on my 1199S because I'm finding the ride too harsh and that the bike skitters about a bit especially in corners, and I noticed there is an adjustment on the rear shock with with two settings F and P. I read on another forum that F is a track setting and P is for road riding. The thread went on to say that the bikes should have come from the factory in P but many actually came in F by mistake!?!?. Mine is in F. I was wondering what setting you guys have yours in and has anyone swapped between settings and noticed any difference?.
hey big m , mine is now progressive and had the valving softened by Darren mct it totally transformed the bike suspension now moves and it floats over the bumps give him a shout defo worth the phone call mine was flat and the bike gave no confidence what so ever far to stiff, im only 11.5 stone tho, mine was the 1199S , believe he said at a show at xmas time even the race bikes were set to Progresive,
Cheers. I think I'll switch it to progressive, I know what you mean, I don't feel confident to push it like it is. I'm about 14.5 stone but still find the suspension far to stiff. I assume it's just a case of undoing the bolt and switching it round?.
yes big m easy to do ,I slackened the shock mount a touch as well just gives a little more free play when changing linkage from f to p
I think I put a piece of wood under cans then jacked up to allow s/arm to not be underload ???? think that's what I done
flat does not give shock the ability to use its stroke on the road ,, im no expert call Darren at mct he will tell you everything you need to know ,, my bike is planted now , where at first it was hard, harsh, and hardly no suspension travel , now its subtle, stable , really you need to call him like I said its worth the phone call, I also read uk bikes were meant to come on progesive not flat, as they did ,the reason you have 120mm stroke is to use 120mm of stroke not 50mm ,
yes mine was , but it was softer, that's why I got it revalved and re sprung ,suppose a lot depends on your weight ,but I know race shocks ive had ohlins is always stiff out the box,
Good point..... Jimmy. I weigh 10 1/2 stone, so probably using 10mm stroke. Lol. Hope someone posts up how to change it over... and I'll give a go.
I changed to P for about 500 miles on my 1199S and did not like it, changed back to F and fitted a lighter rear spring. Now have rear sag and bike feels great. Start of stroke, on P feels softer then it stiffens up, better over bumps. I prefer F and the sharpness of handling it gives.
Won't the bike sit lower in the progressive position or do you adjust the rod?, I noticed it is has threads on it, mine is wound right in
yes you adjust the rod loosen the pinch bolt on top ,, wind it out, you will see a smooth notch in the thread that's your distance, then the pinch bolt goes over the smooth bit in the thread ,pm your mob number I will take photo as im shite on computers ,,
Found this on another forum. A fellow American 1199 owner had taken a break from playing basket ball and eating chilli dogs to post this helpful guide. We solute you!. Me and my brother switched mine this morning. We bypassed some of the details in this guide such as jacking the bike up by simply picking the bike up by hand and sitting it on a towel covered chock of wood placed under the exhausts like Jimmy explained earlier. It's a simple job best done with two people though, especially when it comes to lining the holes up. I haven't taken the bike out yet so fingers crossed!. How to: change F to P on rear shock - Ducati 1199 Forum
just checked mine and it is on P from new. weird that same models of the bike would roll out off the factory floor with different settings
Maxton looked into it for me and he worked it out that the flat position would be better , but I know the s suspension very stiff standard guess just a case of trial and error . It's nice to have a choice . Keep us posted .
Thread resurrection After my first ride and thinking I'd made a wrong decision with this bike as the suspension was so hard on the road and the back wheel skipping, I did a search of the forum and came across this thread. I changed the setting as shown and the difference is great. The bike now feels far more stable and I took it for a quick 20 mile blast and was over the moon with how much this small change made. If anyone else is experiencing similar issues I'd check this setting first.
