999 Ohlins Suspension Settings

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by yellowducmaniac, Jul 31, 2014.

  1. I've currently got my T9S suspension on the standard settings, and I'd like to have a go at trying some specific settings to suit my weight etc...I'm 14ish> stone, anybody got any pointers on where I should begin...I'm sure I cant be the only fat bastard on this forum :D

  2. Heres a recommended rear spring guide . I have a 9.5 by the way . Easyish fit as long as you have spring compressors.

  3. ...and where might one buy heavier duty springs?

  4. For anyone who's interested i've been having a play with the Ohlins suspenders on my 999S,while I thought the bike handled okay on the standard settings I thought there was room for improvement and it seemed to wallow a bit in corners,i weigh approx 93 kilos,i found the following settings transformed the bike almost beyond belief,it feels tauter, sharper and far more stable in the corners, almost like a guided missile...:D

    Forks.
    preload - 1/2 turn in.
rebound damping - 7 clicks out.
    compression damping -8 clicks out.

    Rear shock.
    spring preload - standard.
    rebound - 7 clicks out
    compression - 7 clicks out

steering damper - 7 clicks out.

Worth trying, I wouldn't have believed the difference it makes.

  5. Oddly enough, that's close to what I did for my 999S at one point.
We are similar weights but I have a Bip so I am a little surprised at the similarity. I gave the front a fair bit more pre-load than you.

Have you adjusted the rear ride height and have you dropped the yokes down the forks at all?

I must admit though, I have slackened compression damping off, front and rear, in view of the state of the roads down my way. I wouldn't do a track day on my current settings! :)

  6. I just take mine to Kais and let them deal with the black art

  7. Loz...No ,I've not touched the ride height or the yokes,i'm pretty happy with what I've done up to now and with the difference its made,i might have a look at those when I get a spare day free, just out of interest what kind of effect would altering the steering head angle make, has anyone done it?...

  8. Steepening the steering head angle will reduce stability but quicken the steering. There is a suggestion that with the roads being what they are - potholes, etc - the steeper head setting may mean you more likely to damage the forks in the event of hitting a big bump.

I don't know anyone who has done this for road-riding although it obviously makes sense on the track.

  9. I have the head angle on the steeper setting and the rear ride height set to maximum. It's perfect for me and really sharpens the steering up, no understeer. I've never had a problem with stability on the road. Mine's the standard 999 with Showa so my settings wouldn't apply but doing this made the biggest positive difference to how the bike felt.
