There was a thread going last year about oil for our 1260's, but I cant seem to find it. Anyway, mine is due an annual oil and filter, plus brake and clutch fluid. Alton's want £280 for this job. I've only got 4K on the clock and was considering letting a dealer do it to keep up the service history and possibly the value of the bike (debatable I guess) I'm guessing the oil, filer and brake fluid will come in at well under a £100 so I think I'll do it myself, not only to save some ££, but I'd have to take a day off work to take the bike to a dealer and then hang around for hours while they do it. (I'm 45 mins + ride from any main dealer or 30 mins from MD Racing, nearest Indie) So I'll save a days holiday doing it myself in an evening at home. Anyway... The bike currently has Motul 300 15W50 as supplied by dealer. Some where saying this is an overkill spec for the bike (racing application ?), and we can use a different Motul spec. Can anymore remind me what that was ? Cheers
Motul 300 is not recommended for road bikes by Motul themselves. The oil does not contain the level of detergents that help keep the engine clean. Motul 7100 is however recommended and is cheaper. Andy
I bought mine from Opie Oils - free delivery I think.... "Motul 7100 4T 15w-50 15w50 Ester Synthetic Motorcycle Engine Oil"
So my service indicator came up last night. Bikes only done 2K since last oil change, so does it come on after a time lapse as well ? I'm reading only the dealer can reset the service light on these bikes ? That's a PITA Do you home mechanics just put up with it being on all the time ?
Indicator is time and/or mileage based so whichever comes first, 12 months or 9000 miles. Not sure anyone has found an aftermarket solution for resetting the 1260 service indicator and from posts on here, most dealer workshops will decline resetting if they have not done the work. Andy
Crikey, £280 for this sounds like a steal to me. I'm heading to Riders, Bridgwater on the 6th April 2022, for the annual service + brake & clutch fluid change + coolant change too and this little lot is going to cost me circa £500! I queried the brake and clutch fluid change as this isn't required according to the manual until 36 months after the previous change, whereas, the perceived 'wisdom' suggests every 24 months, so I'm opting for the latter, as I'm heading off to Spain & Portugal for a longish trip mid-June and don't want any issues.......if you get my drift
“Perceived wisdom”, I like that. As I prefer to use Motul 660 and I know that is more hydroscopic than your bog standard DOT4, I request my brake and clutch fluid is tested for water content on the annual service and have it replaced if required. Andy
Hi. I have not come across testing for water content before, out of interest and for future reference can I ask how it is done?
You may be able to get rid of the service warning light by changing the date to the previous year. Leave the month and day the same. e.g. change the date from 31 March 2022 to 31 March 2021
Just paid £299 for annual service at my local Ducati dealer in Sheffield... Goes through me a bit coming from Yorkshire but wanted to ensure FSH, especially as I've only just got the bike and am on track in May. A friend had his '16 1200 go pop, out of warranty, and because it was FDSH, Ducati stumped up the parts as goodwill which were over £3k.
Using something like this, https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/aut...VZGAs5mGCBnD3FfP8K6h_Yk1mEOJSS9hoCwO8QAvD_BwE Andy
I've had mine done at a dealership lately, took advantage of winter workshop rates, have always done it myself but that service indicator.......hmmmm. Anyway, while the oil service was done they updated software and reset my PIN number. Bike feels lovely, quick shifter behaving better than it did before and hill assist stays on much longer. Kind of takes the sting away a little.
Yes there is. It’s only second service of my bike, not totally sure on what’s updated but fuelling certainly feels different as does quick shift. Hill hold now much longer than before.
Told the bike it was 2021... and the service light went off My hill hold function stays on for about 17 seconds IIRC. I think my software is up to date
Last month I took my 1260 S bike to a Ducati Dealership for a year's review. They charged me R$980.00, or US$196.00, with a 10% discount from the Ducati Club. They changed engine oil, filter, brake system oil, wheel alignment and balancing, washing. Here in Brazil, if you do not carry out the scheduled revisions at an authorized dealership, you may lose your motorcycle's warranty.
That's always the threat here. With cars you can, in theory, get servicing done by any reputable workshop so long as they are registered for VAT (UK sales tax) and use original parts. Though the same doesn't appear to be the same for motorcycles for some reason. Using non franchised dealers would almost certainly remove any good-will out of warranty assistance.
