950 Oil Changes

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Martin Newman, Jul 27, 2024.

  1. Hi , my Multistrada 950s 2021 recently had its 3rd year annual service, the dealer advised when my bike was being handed back that they did not change the oil & filter as the oil is good for two years and I had only done 2000 miles in a year/since last service.
This was around 3 weeks ago but I keep wrestling with the decision to get it done anyway....
    Thoughts please ?
Bike is currently on 9400 miles.
    Thanks.

  2. If you're concerned, change them, it's an easy job.

  3. Technically they're probably right. However, I'd be inclined to abide by the service schedule, especially if the bike is still in warranty. An easy and relatively cheap job to DIY.

  4. I think the service schedule just says an annual inspection (safety) service. You only do fluids and filters when they are required.

For 2k miles I wouldnt bother with the oil, it has probably barely changed colour.

  5. Thanks everybody

Every 9,000 miles or annually according to the owners manual. The OP's call, it's money vs. peace of mind if a warranty claim is required. Doubt very much there would be an issue not changing the oil but it would be a convenient potential 'get-out' for Ducati.

  7. Depends on what sort of journeys you do and the environment in which the bike is kept. Some garages(mine) never fall below 12c for some reason and all my rides are 50mile plus. If you are not getting the oil and engine upto operating temperature, which takes a good 15 mins on most rides then I would change the oil every 12 months. Oil is also hydroscopic so if not heated properly can degrade by moisture not being got rid of.

  8. Thanks , all my rides are over 100 miles , but exactly my thoughts on garage temp. Bike was sat still in the garage for 3.5 months over winter + my garage is bloody nuggets

The manual clearly states xxx miles or annually the way I read it so I'm going to get it done I think.

  9. Small typo: You meant Hygroscopic

  10. Just buy oil, filter and a drain plug crush washer and change your oil. Make sure the bike is warmed up. EASY-PEASY.
Don't worry about removing and cleaning the small screen filter for now.

  11. Probably… I only got one O level and that was for French!
