1299 Oil Colour

  1. So whilst cleaning my 1,200 mile 1299 I noticed that the oil was looking decidedly like it had seen better days. It had its first service done 3 months ago at 627 miles and so in around 570 miles it has managed to turn pristine new synthetic oil into this....

I took it back to the stealers and he reckons completely normal on a 1299 but I can't help think he's tanking my chain....agree?

  2. Depends how you ride. Is it a hard 570 miles?

I did 2 track days and my clean oil went to shit.

  3. It's normal mate. I changed the oil on my R only 500 miles after the first service and it was black. I also had the same colour in the sight glass from about 100 miles after the first service too. Nothing to worry about but if it concerns you do an oil and filter change [emoji106]

  4. If oil stayed clean then I would worry about where all the tiny particles were sitting in my engine as the oil is supposed to hold them in suspension - that's why it looks black. Completely normal.

  5. Fair play, thanks for all of your messages. The bike does get, er, "used" a fair bit but only on private closed roads officer...

I'll probably drop the oil out anyway just for peace of mind.

    As you were
