Hi Just checked oil level ans needed to stick in 1.5 litres...bike doesn't smoke and has done 2500 miles since service Do a lot of town work so wondering whether this is normal Cheers Kwack
I've read somewhere that one manufacturer says don't worry provided you're not using more than 1ltr per 1000 miles, making your usage OK. Personally I think that's a lot of oil to use. No offence, but did you fill to the correct mark? My 748 used to use oil to the point where I had to check it before each ride. I'm still in that habit with my 848, which doesn't appear to use any! You'll have to wait for the other Panigale owners for direct comparisons.
Yeah, a lot of modern engines use oil, some worse than others. My Daytona 675 used 0.8ltr per 1k miles bedded in by the book, and my mates daytona which was an ex press bike didn't use a drop. Fireblades are known for liking a drink, tbh I would just keep an eye on it.
Have you not checked the oil level until now? The sight glass upper and lower mark delta is a lot less than 1.5litres. Even under 500ml I would think. If the bike was on the lower mark and you put 1.5 litres in I would be concerned of the bike now being overfilled. Note the marks are two dashes on the right of the sight glass at about 40% and 60% of the glass. Not from the bottom of the glass to the top. My bike does not smoke either and since the first service at 600 miles I have perhaps used 750ml and am now at 2,500 miles. Note too too the oil should be checked when the bike is cold, per the manual. As someone said, 1 litre per 1,000 miles is the limit before Ducati get exited re oil consumption, even if the owners think otherwise!
There wasn't jack all in the sight glass... Hence having to put in that much I can see two marks one on left and one on right side... Never had to check oil on any of my old bikes Will add in to the routine Kwack
funnily enough i had the oil light flicker on a couple of times on my 916 the other day, and it was a pain to get into neutral...well, more than normal... she took the best part of litre to top up near to the max mark. ive never had to top her up before, but this is the first year in the 8 years of ownership that ive ridden it so much..nearly 4k since march, which is about as much as ive done since about 2006..so perhaps this is quite normal. it sounds like its not much to worry about.
