Got some Loctite SI5980 ... Says for flanges with permanent oil contact .. high flexiblity and temp range -50c to 200c That OK ya think ... Was in halfords
The plate on mine (09) has a sealing O ring and doesn't need anything extra to seal it. My service manual was written before that newer plate and says to use 3 bond but neither myself or anyone who has serviced my bike has ever used any on it.
Technically maybe but my bike has had 10 oil changes now by me (and I always check the Screen) + Louigi moto do the major services and it's still on the original O ring. I know they check because they replaced the stock bolts for a stainless cap version. If it ever weeps I will change it.
If anyone wants a gasket as opposed to using the updated cover plate then Ducati sell one for the older style plate. Pt no - 78810651A
I would have thought that a normal gasket would be far better than the liquid stuff, maybe I'm just old school lol
Although modern sealants must take a lot of credit for preventing leaks/ease of assembly today, it's as much to do with the (re)emergence of careful design of components. As long as the main criteria are met re: rigidity of flanges, frequency of fixings, presentation and finish of mating faces, expansion/contraction during use then no sealant or gaskets are even necessary. This is nothing new and yet another example of things going full circle.
