V4 Oil Leak - Is This Common

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by spooky, Jun 25, 2023.

  1. I found an oil leak from the top-right, left side of the bike, from the dry sump whatsit on my SP2.

The bike is less than one year old and has 2,000km on it. I wondered if this is a common issue? I saw a video by Motomillion recently where they had a leak from exactly the same place on their SP2.

it’s under warranty, and I understand that stuff happens, but I wondered if this is a common issue?

I might not have spotted it if I wasn’t having to put a bolt back into the exhaust hanger that had come out after my dealer had fitted it…

  2. Judging from the number of replies I guess it’s unusual. :joy:

  3. memory rusty but ringing some bells that it's been covered on this Forum, only generalising though, might be a seperate issue.

  4. I did a search but didn’t find anything on engine oil leaks. Maybe I’m searching with my good eye closed.

  5. i had a look also without luck - early small leaks used to be rocker covers needing "re-torquing" etc. If you are concerned it's something larger then best book it in for a check - I know you knew this already of course.:upyeah:
Hope a few owners/specialists find this thread.

  6. It’s at the dealer now. I told them there was a leak and provided pictures. They called me the next day and said they checked the oil level and it’s fine so I’m good to go… I told them there’s a leak, reminded them that I’d shown them pictures, so they had a look and then got back to me and said they are going to have to fix it under warranty.

Motomillion on YouTube did a video on their SP2 and they had an engine oil leak from exactly the same place as mine is leaking… Awesome.

I’ve got a track weekend booked for three weeks time…

  7. could you put the pictures up please? - bound to get more interest in your thread. :upyeah:

  8. I’m not sure they are particularly clear.

Only noticed it after starting the bike to check the coolant level was okay and saw smoke coming off the exhaust under the engine. Fortunately, I spotted it very early I think and before I was out riding.

  9. clear enough for that picture - can you find the highest point that you can see an oil stain that you think is linked to the above location/picture?

  10. It came from the top-right of where the oil pan connects to the engine, on the left of the bike. Exactly the same place as happened to Motomillion on YouTube with their SP2.

  11. There was an issue I believe with oil pooling in-between the V of the cylinders. I don't have mine to check to remind me of the component. But do a search for oil leak Streetfighter or SFV4 as they were easier to see on the streetfighter blocks (obviously :) )

  12. It’s definitely not from any higher. I’m quite certain where it’s coming from.

  13. I think that says more about the forums search function rather than Ducati's don't leak oil.

  14. it's come back to me now - there was an issue with the waterpump seal failing and I think even pictures were included in the thread. On failure, housing is designed to allow oil to escape through a relief hole, which is generally a common feature. Don't know if this is responsible for your leak of course. :upyeah:

  15. It’s not the water pump thanks Chris. There’s a leak from the corner where the oil pan meets the crank case.

  16. If that's indeed where it is leaking from it's an easy fix. Were it not for the fact it is still under warranty, you could do it yourself in about an hour.

  17. On the Motomillioin video they took the oil pan off, cleaned it up, put new sealant on and put the oil pan back on - it didn't look too tricky.
