I have oil leaking from the alternator cable where it passes out of the engine case. The Stein Dinse pic shows the threaded fitting the cable passes through. Can this just be tightened to seal or shall I get a new one? looks like someone has already been at it with grey silicone.
There should be a rubber grommet inside, which is compressed by the knurled fitting. Possibly this needs changing if the fitting has been screwed right in
I'll try and get a better photo tomorrow to see if there is a knurled piece. The knurled piece is available in plastic.
That the same as mine, I have never seen the metal one, I suspect it was changed to this later on. Inside the two parts of the threaded bits, sots a rubber washer which seals the wires
The alloy ones were aftermarket supplied by the likes of V Two. I have them on all of my Ducati's they're way superior to the OEM plastic shit. Steve R
Steve, I never knew this. The plastic is indeed shit, it's very easy to cross thread. May have to get some of this metal ordered
I took mine to pieces this afternoon. It's all metal but there are no rubber seals in it and someone has tried to fix it with silicone. Spoke to Motorapido and they are sending me both the metal pieces and rubbers/seals.
Just an update on this - new parts from Motorapido and the plastic inner nut finger tight (any more and it cross threads). What I thought was a metal nut was in fact plastic but the old one felt harder than the new ones so I reused it. I've done about 30 miles and it's not leaking. The blue goo under the nut is Hylomar.
