1200 Oil Leakage At Gear Sensor

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Prince Charmin, Jun 2, 2023.

  1. HI Community,

today I have discovered some oil leakage at the gear sensor of my MTS 1200S 2014.
Does anyone have experiences or recommendations with that?
Change sensor or maybe just loose?

    Thanks

  2. I would try tightening it first, to see if that solves the problem.

DO NOT overtighten! I had a problem with mine on a 2015 DVT…

The torque value for the 2015 is 12NM.

If that doesn’t work, I would remove it and inspect/replace the rubber o-ring or sensor.

  3. Thanks! What tool are you using to tighten it?
A standard socket will not work because of the cable, right?

  4. I bought a deep socket, shortened it to just long enough and then cut a slot along the length of it…worked really well…

  5. What size is the socket? Maybe I can find a pre-sloted like for o2-sensors

  6. 16mm.

  8. I bought a set of spark-plug sockets. Chopped the 16mm one to make a cable exit, then drove that one with one of the others. As above - it's a fairly fat o-ring seal, so IMO an o-ring replacement & cleanup should be enough...
I'll be in the garage later - think I've stil got the sockets info
