Only had this a few weeks, looks like dealer has been too generous with the oil, which in itself is unusual. I can’t fit a tube in the oil fill hole to syringe any out as the clutch is in the way. Only option is to drop the oil and fill correctly. Should I bother? Is it going to cause any damage running it slightly overfilled? I’m guessing there’s 500 ml too much in there. Hmmmm.
Doesn't look too overfill to me, will be fine at current temperatures. You can always undo oil drain plug and controllably drain small amount of oil. No need to drop it all
Over filling can be just as bad as not enough. You’ll have to forgive me, can’t remember which bike you have. IMO, crack the sump plug and drain about a tea cup’s worth and see where you are then. Andy
I would take some out with a syringe. If you get a thin flexible pipe I feel sure you can wiggle it past the clutch to get to the oil.
+1 to that. May not be a good analogy but a few years ago a "Porsche specialist" put too much oil in our 911. Ended up VERY expensive...
Job done. Took about 400 ml out to get 2/3 full on sight glass. I remember a mate had a first gen suzuki TL1000S. Suzuki made the cases with the sight glass too high, after the first service with new oil we were up in the highlands when the crankcase pressure hit it’s limit. Oil forced into the airbox and then combusted through the cyclinders. It was spectacular, a bit like a spitfire being shot down with trails of black smoke filling the air for a considerable distance. Bike was ok.
