Hi, I always had a fairly loud Multistrada (it's a 2010, one of the first) with a ringing metal sound coming from the engine... but never really understood why. I opened the engine years ago so I know that nothing is wrong inside or out of specs. Lately I used a stethoscope to locate the sound and I found a really loud sound near the oil pump. As I opened up and took the measurements, I found that the internals are in good shape and with a normal play between the internal gears and along the shafts, but the main gear is somehow loose... or at least I think it is! Check this image: The manual says that I should measure a 0.10mm play, but it is not really clear, because the gear is free to move between the 2 circlips that hold it in place. You can see it in this image, the gear (12) and the circlips (6) and (3). I measure almost 0.40mm of play, but it can't be a wear scenario. This is the only thing I found that is out of spec on my engine, and the only sound loud enough to give me some pain using the stethoscope. As final thought, I found that the old Ducati oil pumps are pretty much identical to mine, except this particular part that has 2 more pieces that compensate the room between the circlips. Can't image why Ducati should left something with such a high free play willingly... EDIT: here you can see the pieces I mentioned, that are missing in the last image: "Thanks to desmodromico.com team for the image"
