G'day all My new MTS first hit the road 17th April 2013 I only managed 1000 miles last year and had so it's first service at the end August 2013 and then not used over winter period I just received an email from Ducati saying that my bike is a year old and now needs an oil service ! Is this really necessary at £210+vat as it's only done 300 miles since the first service ? Would this invalidate my warranty do you know please ? Cheers for any help in understanding
It could be an automated email? Since I registered I've had emails from Ducati that look as if they're just automatically sent out at intervals relating to the purchase date etc.

You need a annual service after 12 months ie 17th April 2014 or within a few weeks. Forget that i was talking bollocks,just read the service book,quote,(next service due) within 12 months from previous service coupon
Service schedule calls for oil inspection service at 6 months (600 miles), 12 months and 24 months from registration or every 7500 miles. The warranty conditions are in the service book and I think on ducati.com but not sticking to the above schedule will at best cast a dark shadow on the warranty but most likely invalidate it.
Service book is not very clear on this,in the actual service manual(not owners manual)page 33 section 5.3 it states service times to be within 12 months of previous coupon ?i read that as 12 months from last stamp in service book.
The first two years are set out at 6 months (1000km), 12 months (7500) and 24 months (15000). Mileage changes for HYM but the theory is the same. Now I am really confused ! My service book has written in it by the technician next service due by Nov 2014...just read it now Is there a definitive answer or is it meant to be vague to catch us all out in case of a warranty issue !
Nelly says it above. It's basically every 7,500 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. So if it's only done 300 miles in the last year, it makes no difference, a service is still due.
Yes but what I mean is if it was first serviced in September 2013 have I got till September 2014 guys or is it 12 months from date of registration regardless of first service ? ...sorry if I sound confused but I am !
That would imply that they must be serviced at 6 months, then 6 months later at 12 months, then 12 monthly after that. However, having read the statement on Ducati's website I think you are right "Ducati offers consumers: at 1,000 km (or six months), 12,000 km (or 12 months) and 24,000 km (or 24 months)..." The first service is supposed to be at 1,000 km (620 miles) which most owners would do within a month or so, but Ducati allow up to 6 months, so 12 months from registration is not unreasonable, in most cases. They don't take into account that the bike has been laid up over the winter for 3 or 4 months.
Agreed. .....but £210 + vat seems a bit steep. I think it's 1.4 hrs labour. Say £60 per hr. = £84 + vat = £100.80 plus cost of oil/parts. I'm supplying my own oil next time - it'll save me plenty.
