Changing the oil on my 2000 ST2 and this was stuck magnetically to the drain plug!!! I can't think it's a good thing!!
End of some sort of spring, for auto return, possibly off a gear lever? Can someone pull up a schematic and see what it might be off?
looks like a gear selector spring, they do break now and then. have you removed the mesh filter screen that is situated below the sight glass, behind a plug with a large Allen key recess in it? as this ,might have more debris in it. https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?img...MXYAhUMAZoKHQfYCgQQMwg6KAYwBg&iact=mrc&uact=8
as above - looks like the right gauge for the gearchange return spring (drawing 2/part no 27). If it is then you will know about it as you would have to manually* (you get the knack with your foot after a while) return gearlever to 'centred' position every time you use the box in either every up or every down gear selection. If it is this spring and you don't suffer with * then it means it's the remains of a previous spring and someone has already replaced it. It's common for the fork return spring (drawing 2/part no 20) to fracture but it's made from a smaller gauge wire and rarely impedes gearchanging even when broken. http://issuu.com/ducatiomaha/docs/st2_usa-00?e=1222863/10928093
(Sorry - off topic) Yes Steve, Omaha offer a great, easy access (parts manual) service to many of our bikes :- https://www.ducatiomaha.com/pages/ducati-oem-parts
Thanks for spelling it out for me. I hope getting in to that spot isn't too hard. looks like I'll need a torque wrench and an alternator cover remover?
