  7. It says something when the 'Wales' sticker is the only good bit left.

  8. I think there is significantly more damage than the frame needing to be replaced.....Looks like a total write-off or a total re-build, with a new V5 for different frame and engine numbers......ie; another bike.......

......a bit like the everlasting broom that Trigger used.

  9. Well, I'm overwelmed with all your helpfull suggestions .....

I've not had a chance to make any sort of assesment of damage yet although I can report that the clocks and the headlight are undamaged. Result!

With any luck the escaping (escaped, really) oil has only come from the sheared lower oil cooler and the only damage to the engine is where the frame has tried to remove the rear mounting bolt tunnel, which I should imagine is a fairly simple weld.

Hope the forks aren't too damaged .... hard to tell if they're bent with the fairing so pissed. The exhaust header system is OK, as is the rear Ohlins. My lovely one-off Spondon clip-ons may be straightenable.

If I replace the frame with a stocker (easy & cheap, thanks BP) then I've got to get the rest as well.

I would splash out on an Imola kit if they still made 'em, but .......

Latest fantasy is a one-off frame, using my engine/wheels/suspension but having the general look of a Dresda-era Triton. Bainsey said he could still source the Conti-replica silencers commisioned for the Imola. All one step closer to reality just now when I assertained David Davies (frame builder who was DOT's chief engineer in their latter years) is still in business in Wiltshire.

I really, really want to keep as much of this bike alive .... I've owned it from new, 22 years.

    What happened?

Well, just for once I can remember pretty clearly.

A483 up to Newtown is my very favorite road anywhere and as such is probably going to kill me eventually but to be honest the section that eventually got me out of the saddle was the bit I would have least expected to be the one. Anyway, lost the front on an uphill fast left-hander.

When I'd stopped and done a quick limb assesment I started wondering why the traditional "just passing" nurse and doctors hadn't materialised. Then I realised I was in the field and no one could see me ..... managed to get to my knees eventualyy and shuffled to the fence. Waved weakly till a car stopped and then lay down again.

As the ambulance guys had to help me over the fence I can only assume that the bike (and me) had actually cleared the fence. Hence the bent rear subframe (landed on it's arse) and relatively un-smashed front.

Happy to report no broken bones and seemingly intact kidneys (despite a small blood-in-urine scare when I was first admitted to Shrewsbury General) but lots of deep bruising. Just starting (5 days on) to be able to lift my right leg anough to swing it onto the bed unaided. Another week till I can get back to work on my trusty Sleauville, I reckon.

So, could everyone keep 'em peeled for any "barn-find" SSs, preferably with blown engine, scabby wheels etc, pleae? Otherwise I may end up blowing my pension on another NCR looky-likey/ Ton-up wanabe.

  10. Sounds like you were lucky to escape really serious injuries.

  11. Sounds like you were riding like a knob and slung it big style up the road. My kinda guy :upyeah:

  13. Ooooo ouch
    Get well soon

  14. I can bend tubes - just can't straighten them :(

  15. Love that road too. A timely warning, sadly at your expense. Hope you start feeling better very quickly

I have 2 Pantah frames, one of which I need, the other is spare......

The idea is to make a 900ss-engined Super Pantah as the engine goes straight in. I started out with the idea of doing something like this:

    Rad SP 6.jpg

But race rep project fatigue has driven me more to a 900ss version of this:

    JVB Pantah 2.jpg

So you'll now be wanting my spare frame, won't you?

    Best wishes
