Optimate Or Optimiser?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Ian, Jun 3, 2014.

  1. Simple question really, as per the thread title!
It WONT be left plugged in permanently, more often used every other week if the bikes haven't been run!

    Thanks!

(Oh, and reasons for choice please if poss !)

  2. No CTEK?

  3. +1 on the CTEK stuff. Use various chargers in the workshop daily and can't be beaten IMO

  4. I didn't list CTEK because they didn't occur to me! Oooops.

  5. I discovered CTEC on here, bought one and been very pleased with it.

  6. They all do the same bloody thing! End this thread now!

  7. Yes but the CTEC does it for less money, something worth knowing IMHO

  8. The choices are simple. They all do the same thing, so do you want a cheap one or a pretty one..?

  9. Well said.....I'v got a Halfords one. Three lights, battery charging, battery charged or battery shagged.... Thirty quids.:)

  10. Oxford 900 thing £40. Identical to the predecessor.

  11. No they don't:Yawn:

  12. I use an optimate, once a week. Stick it on at night ( normally a friday eve ) and unplug following day.

Been some debate, but I think plugging in on a constant is not good for the battery.

Each to their own i suppose.

  13. I use the bike once a week when I can, come the winter months when I can't always get out I've got an optimate on a timer so I don't have to worry about unplugging it.

  14. clever clogs.......;)

  15. FWIW I've always had an optimate and leave it on all the time. My 2001 748 is only on it's second battery (only replaced the first one because it was a bit dinted from a rather rapid stop.....)

  16. Lazy clogs :)

  17. Use a float charger - I bought mine for £15 each. They don't fry your battery.

  18. The marketing of these things is so misleading. Get the cheapest, all the talk of advanced processors blah blah is marketing spin.

  19. There all crap don't use any of them! Better off fitting a starting handle.

  20. I leave my original optimate plugged in all the time on the panigale. Connection have got a bit ropey now and I sometimes find a red light on the charger as I had to cut in new block connectors. So was thinking of getting a new one...would be interested I n the ctek ones as a comparison to the usual with a permenant connection
