Evening. Had a play with a can of anniversary red made up at Halfords today. Got some Orange peel effect. Now this needs a top coat of clear lacquer. Will the clear coat hide the orange peel on the paint once the clear coat is buffed or do I need to polish/sand the paint flat before the clear coat goes on otherwise it will always show? Thx
Really? I thought Orange peel was common before buffing out? Surely I don't take it all back to primer?
I did my fairings with rattle cans. Details here : Winter track bike projects | 675.cc • Triumph 675 Forum
You can't flatten your basecoat. If it's really bad, take it off and start again. If it's slightly peely, spray the clearcoat and flatten back with 2500 wet & dry paper once hard, then polish back up. When using the 2500, sand in random directions, if you sand in one direction / motion, you'll notice.
sorry dude. couldn't get up to my mates the night to seek advice there back from glasgow the morra night. take it back start again if yer not happy with finish
Just scanned the thread, will read it properly later. Looks good, very Evo Course. How hard is that CF wrap to fit?
Take your time and try and avoid too many deep stretches of the material and you'll be fine. Use a hair dryer to make the wrap more pliable and a squeegee to smooth it on. It's a doddle really. Just be patient
Flatten the peel out with a fine wet and dry ( 1200grit with some soapy water ) , as long as you've not gone through the paint layer you applied ( be very careful of the edges) then apply the lacquer . The lacquer will not hide the peel if you leave it just enhance it !.
That's what I was thinking. Going to take a look in the daylight now it's dry later. It's only a test piece I'm playing with, which takes the pressure off.
One other question. I have done half red and half yellow with a gap about 2" wide down the middle which will be black. The red needs clear coat, the black and yellow do not. Do I: A: clear coat the red ASAP, before putting edging tape on it and painting the black. Or B: leave the clear coat off, put edging tape on the red, paint my black on, then clear coat just the red. Or C: leave the clear coat off, put edging tape on the red, paint my black on, then clear coat all 3 paints.
Seen that, very good vid after the first 2mins. Thing is, he does all the work at the end. No mention of seeing peel in paint pre clear coat.
