1200 Outrageous Behaviour

  1. Having acquired my MTS 1200 GT in January this year and looking at the service history paperwork, she's due new oil, filter & brake, clutch fluid changes, at the end of June 2020.

Now I'd like to do this myself. Should be pretty standard stuff as I've been riding for 25+ years and like to do this kind of easy job.

Question, as my first ever Duc:
Will this effect the value of the bike? (I'll keep receipts in the folder)
Will the dash light up on June 22nd with urgent, urgent, oil needs to be replaced etc etc!
Will the bike explode in a ball of flame June 23rd (only joking, being glib)

    Cheers. Mr Yorkshire.

  2. Nothing difficult in doing a DIY oil and filter change or changing the brake and clutch fluid. If you want to reset the service indicator, you will need to source cables and something like JPdiag (?) software. There is a lot if advice on this forum, what to buy, what to use. Main dealers are very reluctant to reset service indicators if they have not done the service. Many will refuse outright.

As to value, someone will always look for a full dealer history, some won’t give a toss. Will it affect the resale value ? Depends on what you think the bike is worth when you are done. To be blunt, a bike that age, not much. Andy

  3. If the work you intend to do is well documented, then it would be fine by me on an older bike.

  4. Use modern tech. You could video the service and stick it somewhere for when you need it if too worried.

  5. You can get a dealership to verify at a nominal charge that you have done a service & gain a stamp.

  6. Yes ........ but less than paying a dealer for the service
Yes ........ ignore it and dealer can turn off at next major.
And bleeding these brakes is an annoying pia.

( but I’d go for it anyway and write in your service book “ done in Cv19 lockdown” :upyeah:)

  7. I always photograph and keep records of oil changes on my car, pic of the oil draining out and date on a piece of paper in it etc.

My Duc is 2016 and so i've kept with the ducati S.H. on it, for now.

  8. I think once a bike is 6 or 7 years old, unless its special (enginewise)... like a 749R etc.. Home servicing is fine.

  9. I’ve done all that, now waiting for licence, just wondering if it’s still available as I had no reply, hooked it all up and all went well, do you know anything about guys writhing that they cannot reset the oil service?
