Off to the oval motorcycle center in London at the weekend to fit my termi, should be interesting as my mech skills pretty shoddy. So that's full termi, ecu, taking off exhaust valve cable, new filter etc...Am fully loaded with some info from the net but any top tips welcome. Will post experience report ! (for those of u that don't know it's a place where they show u what to do and have professionals and equipment there to help u out) - or as the wife puts it a good Xmas present. Bugs
Spray some wd40 into the exhaust joints, makes it easier to split the pipes apart! Also the nuts on the front exhaust manifold are copper and quite soft, make sure your spanner is on square, otherwise u could round the nuts! Again wd40 is your friend! For the rest it's quite straight forward! Check out Andys motorcycle info pages, there's some pics there i seem to remember! Motorcycle Info Pages - MTS1200 Tuning & Performance > Termi Full Exhaust System Install Are u fitting a new ecu, or just an update? If a new ecu there definitely were some pics/step by step guide on how to remove replace the ecu without taking the tank /other bits off, I used it an it worked well, very fidly though! Motorcycle Info Pages - MTS1200 Tuning & Performance > ECU Change / Access Good luck and enjoy! Should be fun!
Just to add something here. WD40 is NOT designed as an easing oil. As it's name suggests it's a Water Displacer. Use Plus Gas or a similar product designed to ease dis-assembly of nuts, bolts etc. Also when assembling the exhuast, use a smear of high temp grease, it will help if you ever have to take it apart again.
Ok so am back, after a seven hour session. Left bike there as need new exhaust lugs for header pipe. But have done everything else, including taking all the fairing off and fuel tank, swapping CPU and air filter, etc and got it back together. Feel brilliant about doing it and empowered as now I now how things work, I am sure I will be able to tackle quite a few jobs now. The oval motorcycle center and the facilities are great, very knowledgable and with having the iPad with all the info handy nothing was too difficult. Turns out the mts is not too bad in general as a bike to work on. The tools, lift and help are highly recommended, it costs about 13 quid for an hour but it's not strict. If anything it makes u think about how you would set up ur garage. You can either just turn up, or call to see if they have space (6 bays max) or post the parts and then turn up. Now...does anyone have any help or links to how to remove the exhaust valve cable ? - I know I have seen the step by step somewhere... Bugs
All done! Another 3 hrs today, so total 10 hrs for me to do termi... Had the bike for over 2 years and the ride home felt like I had a brand new growling beast ! Zezzus what a difference. And to sum up, the oval motorcycle center is a brilliant place, economical, convenient and I thoroughly recommend it, even if u know ur stuff it's great to have a load of space, amazing toolsets, storage, people to talk to and lend a hand, it's run by a couple of blokes and I think it's the only one in london/uk ? Good luck to them and I will b back for my grips, next service, hid install etc! Bugs
Asked my local dealer about getting full termi for my Multi, they said it would be fitted in 3 hours  BUT, they went on about how it was a race pipe and not road legal, and "for race use only" would be stamped on it. Also heard a story (from an unreliable source) about how a full Termi really harms your fuel consumption/tank range. These two things have put me off a bit. I had not really appreciated the legality thing because its sold by Ducati and NOONE buys a Multi for a track bike. Not sure what to do now?
Polish off the not for road use part and I would disagree with economy. It might suffer at first cos you're loving the noise but when fitted with ecu it's so much smoother and rideable.
Your dealer sounds like he has a hidden agenda, the termi upgrade is prob The best thing you can get done to your bike, a lot of bikes have race spec exhausts, ducati are well known to have full termis, putting a sticker over the race use notice gets u by mot. Sounds like u are not talking to the right person, I have always used snells in Alton, they quoted 200 for fitting btw. Getting someone to fit it vs u doing it and learning was my dilemma and mega happy to have done it all myself, best couple of Saturdays I ve had for a while, really got to know my bike on a lot deeper level - 'Take away maybe cheaper and faster than a nice meal at home but it's not the same...'
