999 Over Heating !

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by uk_biker, Jan 12, 2023.

  1. Just got home after getting stuck in traffic. Its never happened before but the bike overheated. Both fans come on at 219 and stay on but temp gets hotter and hotter until the gauge starts flashing. Are the the fans duel speed ? . Seems like only one to me but both come on. During normal riding the temp is fine. Any ideas ???

  2. Mine doesn't like slow moving traffic..stop start stuff.

    Have you checked fluid level?

  3. Move to England, it's fucking freezing.

  5. Have you checked the rad is not choked up with road crud. My bike was running hot and after cleaning the radiator fins out it ran a lot cooler.

  6. Radiator fins are clear, i did take it apart yesterday, removed the battery box, disconnected the coolant temp sensor and checked pins, looked fine. It looks like the cluster controls it all, so i disconnected that and that also looked good.
Thermostat seems like it opens when it should. so ill put it back together and maybe resetting the basic settings with the computer will do something, still seeing only one fan speed.

  7. Fans are one speed only. First fan kicks in at 102 degrees, second at 103 or 104 degrees.

  8. Have you tried back-flushing the radiator?

  9. not tried a back flush. Ill do it before i put the fairing back on.

  10. Which comes on first? I got one dodgy one, be good to know if it's the first or second...

  11. @Bull Tahr Not sure but I'd guess LH side is the first to come on.
