oxygen sensor eliminators

  1. I've been looking at some oxygen sensor eliminators for my monster 1100evo as there supposed to smooth out the engine at slow speeds but I'm a little confused.
Aren't they there to measure the oxygen in the exhaust gas and correct the mixture accordingly and if so wouldn't removing them make matters worst and the mixture all to cock ?
My bike has a Leo Vince end can with no other mods ( filter, ECU ) and runs no better/worst than standard ( just lots of lovely noise ).On first startup after fitting the can the engine management light came on while the oxygen sensors and ECU worked it out, the next startup fine and has been ever since. Fitting eliminators must throw it out with no data going to the ECU about combustion !?!
Do excuse me if I've missed something or I'm being dense.
