999 Oz Or Dymag?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by yellowducmaniac, Aug 23, 2016.

  1. Torn between the two for my 999S,both similarly priced and similar weights, Dymag UP7X alloys are 7 spoke OZ Piega's are 5 spoke, both look good...any recommendations?

  2. i think the dymags are lighter but are slightly more expensive, i have oz piegas on my r1 and they are amazing. dymags come in a bigger range of colours too, unless you want to paint the oz's. Tough choise though but i personally prefer the oz's.

  3. Neither. Get the OEM forged Marchesinis which have the design that was meant for this bike.

  4. Yeah, missed a pair of these off a 749R on ebay last week...if you know where there is another set or a hen with a set of teeth let me know...;)

  5. The Dymags/OZ wheels are roughly £1700 a set all in.

  6. Just realised BST carbon fibre wheels are only a few hundred quid more than the alloy ones...mmmmm .

Anyone on here got them on their bike?

  7. I'd stick with aluminium if it was me personally.

  8. Any particular reason ?...I have seen instances of them disintegrating after a crash in the past, but I thought the design and manufacturing process had moved on.

  9. Again this is my personal opinion mate so please don't take it as gospel. There's not much weight difference between the two, not that you would notice anyway. There are a more expensive and that money can buy me 4 sets of tyres for example. Carbon doesn't crash well as we've all seen. My friend bought a set of bst's last month and had to send um back as both tyres kept going flat turned out to be dodgy wheels and that would always been on my mind. I just think there are equally as good wheels out there for less money. But on the other hand I know people who have got them and swear by them. I just personally wouldn't have them. Stick with forged alloy.

  11. Does anyone know the weight comparison between the Marchesini forged aluminium and OE.?

  12. Heavier than the Dymag alloys that Dunlop uses :)

  13. Please forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between cast and forged wheels?

  14. Granular structure of the metal.
Forged are formed under heat and pressure resulting in a more uniform structure and consequently higher strength.
The wheel can be made lighter as it is stronger material.

  15. Thanks, been looking at the Omnia racing forged wheels on ebay, only thing is I wont get them till Mid October if I order them now!..they are a lot cheaper than the OZ or Dymags available in the UK and the lead time is about the same.. mid October.

  16. Just taken the plunge and bought a set of used BST carbon wheels, for about half the price of new. Will report and post pics when they arrive and I get them fitted.
