1299 Oz Piega Forged Wheels

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Steve Wright, Jul 13, 2016.

  1. Thinking about changing my Base wheels for a pair of Gold OZ wheels, anyone used them, any benefits over the standard wheels?

    Cheers

  2. @simmytt will be along shortly

  3. I ordered some, waited 10 weeks and the wrong ones arrived so I bought some Dymag UP7X instead and they arrived in a week. Very slightly more expensive though.

I imagine they're similar weight to the Oz. The difference they make is massively noticeable over the original 899 wheels. Even for an amateur like me. Not sure what the weight saving is against the base 1199 wheels though. The original 899 wheels are very heavy.

  5. I can't believe how much difference my bst's made I'll always buy bst's before a system now, I didn't think they would make that much difference but everything you read about them is true

  6. Oz wheels are fantastic so much lighter than stock. There so good I'm actually going to buy another set for my track bike.

  7. I have the Oz GASS wheels on my base and they have made a huge difference. Definitely worth it.

  8. does anyone know the weight difference between the Oz wheels ( not mag) and BST wheels? , there is a significant price difference

  9. I've got an Oz rear for my Panigale and it's very very sexy. I'm not sure of the difference in weight but any weight saving on unsprung weight (wheels) is worth several times the same weight loss from the body of the bike. You really start to notice it at higher speeds in particular. Definitely one of the best mods for any bike.

  10. The OZ wheels are a lot cheaper than they used to be as well , paid a lot more for the exact same set for my beemer a few years ago , didn't think they were a great deal lighter though , which is why I was asking about the differential between them and the carbon ones

  11. carbon are definatly lighter but i do prefer the alloy ones. plus there half price of the carbon bst's.

  12. Whilst I appreciate that the carbon ones are good I don't think they look that great. It's is just performance you're after go for carbon, if you want something pretty (and cheaper) aluminium all the way

  13. The gold oz wheels certainly do look the business
    Loved the look of mine

  14. Now looking into getting the standard wheels painted in Gold.

@simmytt - i maybe interested in the swap

  15. I had carbon BSTs on my S1000RRbtrack bike. What a difference.
Now I have my R with its forged ally Marchesinis, just as good on track.
But, knowing what I now know, from people who are involved in top level racing, I'll never have carbon wheels. Ever.
If I need an upgrade I'll go mag alloy but tbh, the Marchesinis are fine

  16. I've often wondered why you never see carbon wheels in racing.

  17. I think it's a mix of regulation (some series don't allow them, some do), history/tradition & cost/benefit

I think Moto GP allow them, for example, but I believe the cost benefit isn't that much better between a set of bespoke magnesium & carbon (as an ally hub needs glueing in). Then there's history with various accounts of delaminations over the years, although manufacturing technology has moved on so much and when I was in touch with BST in South Africa over mine, I was 100% confident in them. But I think a major issue in racing is the potential for carbon damage to occur, which needs in effect, an x-ray to see. The whole inspect/repair/test process of magnesium alloy wheels is better understood/available and for race teams, minimising risk through well understood, predictable, repeatable performance is probably the preferred option.

  18. There is a set on eBay for £600

  19. Just put Ducati 899 oz wheels

  20. Hi Steve, I have the Oz wheels on my 1199, they are a huge improvement in looks and readability I reckon. DSC01519.JPG IMG_1155.JPG
