1199 P And F Suspension Setting

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Orchardbike, Jul 31, 2014.

  1. I know there's a lot of posts on here about this setting. The majority that I've read suggest that. The suspension is generally softer in the P setting (at least at the start of the shock stroke). My 1199 was delivered in F and I've put 1500 miles on it in that setting. I changed it to P a few days ago (based on comments on here) and went for a spin last night. To me, the suspension seems harder, more choppy and the. Bike more unsettled. Anyone had similar experience? I'm thinking of changing it back, but it's such a faf trying to prop the back end up to take the weight off the suspension!

  2. I changed mine to 'p' on Saturday
And I think it made it worse ! P
    For pogo stick !
Easy to Adjust with a pair of axle stands & a bar

  3. Yeah, I posted a thread about this a few weeks ago, my bike came in F. I switched it from F to P and to be honest I'm thinking of switching back. It seems to feel a bit like being on a pogo stick in the corners if that makes any sense a bit bouncy and as said quite unsettled. I've got an 'S' with the electronically adjustable suspension and I've been playing about with it but don't seem to be able to find the ideal setting.

  4. Mine was delivered from the factory on F so I instructed the Dealer to change to P during PDI before delivery last year. Never actually tried F but P is perfect for me @ 80kgs. To state the obvious, I assume you guys correctly reset the ride height when changing F to P.

    hope this helps

  5. Remember chap it's yr full weight on the bike ie leathers boots etc I'm 14st but closer to 15st + with the kit on ! Ooh err
& I still think the spring rate is too high.
But then every Ducati superbike I've owned have been to stiff out the Box !

  6. I went from f to p then back to f , still bike was rock solid its an S with ohlins, now had it resprung and revalved by mct, its now in P ,as he recommends , it feels great, I may put to F to see if its even better, std suspension is far to stiff, unless your a heavyweight, im 11,5 without gear,

  7. I'm about 68 kilograms, so maybe it's just that the spring rate is too high for my weight. I had a look at the sag and there's very little even with the preload wound right off.

  8. Mines the standard by the way, not an S or R.

  9. Best mod on my 916 ohlins was to get a rear spring more suited to my weight. I guess this will be the same for an 1199. The guy at HM selected the correct one for me. He also did my FG43's springs etc. Spot on. Was like riding a jack hammer before on the rear.

Getting your suspension set up by a professional with the correct springs should be everyones priority. Especially on these kind of bikes. It will transform your riding experience.

  10. I totally agree just run out of money !
So I'll be riding the pogo stick for a while ! Lol

  11. I have also tried this on our show 1199s as I found the feedback from the bike limited, here is a pic of the new bracket linkages and road version passive linkage. The Ducabike linkage below has a centre/middle hole so you can have the best of both F&P settings.

I also had the suspension set up by a local specialist Race Lap based in Wimborne, the guy to speak to is Paul. For £99 he sets it up for your weight and riding style, it's made a massive difference.

  12. Brain Nicholson BN Race Science | Professional Road & Race Suspension Setup did mine. Cost me £60 4yrs ago on my 1198. Its been spot on. Just one click +rebound on front for track days. He does appointments at LJ Motorcycles in Twickenham.

On my 916 HM did my forks for me as I bought them from them new and selected a rear ohlins spring for me. Both were also bang on the money.

  13. If you do not set up your bike properly yourself, or get an expert to do it for you, then you are missing out on the foundation step to improving your bike. Its really quite fundemental.
