848 Paddock Stand To Change Rear Sprocket!

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Darren4, Dec 6, 2015.

  1. Hi there, I'm looking for a stand so that I can work on my bike and change the chain, both sprockets and also sprocket carrier but looking at most of the single sided paddock stands they go into the axle from the sprocket side so can't see how I can then change the sprocket itself, was looking at the warrior spider lift and also the Abba stand, have any of you had experiences of these or other stands that you think I should take a look at.
    Thanks in advance, Darren

  2. The sprocket carrier can be removed without the need for a stand.
Alternatively, Abba type stand is useful but not essential.

  3. Sorry never had a single swing armed bike before, so I can undo the centre nut with the bike just on the side stand and then undo the carrier and sprocket nuts and put on the new items on as the hub is held in the swing arm and obviously the wheel is held on with the wheel bolt on the other side of the hub?

  4. Yes. :)

  5. If the 848 is like the 916 series you will need a fairly large pair of internal circlip plyers aswell.

  6. The carrier on the 848 is different to the 748/916 one it doesn't have a circlip holding the sprocket on :upyeah:

  7. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling that my ABBA Stand makes it possible to do significant maintenance (including front wheel off, front forks out) on any of my bikes with much less risk/fear of the bike falling over. I don't have an 848 but I'd be surprised if the ABBA stand does not have a fitting kit to lift the 848 up at the swing-arm pivots, which would chieve what you need.

Mine also came with a kit for swinging arm removal, which switches to attaching the stand at the footrest mounts, but I haven't tried that out so far.

Mine is the older style but the swinging arm removal kit worked a treat when I got the 1098's swinging arm powder coated. I posted this elsewhere recently for something else so apologies if you have seen it before

  9. Abba is excellent but on the 996 I can't take the fairing off when on the Abba as it fouls the side stand. Its also a slight fiddle compared to a normal paddock stand. I didn't believe I needed both until I had both. Both is good.

I also have the swing arm removal kit. Good thing about this is it fits all bikes to my knowledge. So just buy this and you don't need a different kit for each bike.

  10. Yeah but to change the chain & sprocket no stand is needed at all, if anything it'll just be a hinderence to getting at the front :)
