I m new to the forum, and have received some great advice from you guys so far regarding my 05 749 Bip.I, m currently looking for a paddock stand for it, and have seen lots of different types around.Could any one recommend one that has worked well for them,?
i'll save time and say an abba stand: a sky lift: or just ya bog standard paddock stand: all depends on how confident you feel and how much you wanna spend. Personally my 749 is up on a front and a back £20 each paddock stands and have used them for years, never a problem at all!
I use a basic micron paddock stand and never had any problems. Payed around 30 quid years ago. I have the black swing arm model and sometimes use a piece of 20mm solid steel tube through the rear spindle and use that as the mounting point.
I use both an Abba stand and a normal paddock stand with swingarm bobbins. Abba stand is great but you have to use caution so as to not scratch the frame paint. Normal paddock stand best option for general stuff.
I use one of these Warrior Spider Stand | Demon Tweeks Its obviously a bursig copy but its a lot cheaper . You need the fitting kit for your bike though .
The standard style paddock stands do seem quite awkward with the bobbins. It seems to be a two man job to ensure no accidents.Has anyone fallen foul of this type?
If you have bobbins on your swing arm go with the normal paddock stand. There are loads out there. It's a very simple job and easy enough for one man to do it on his own. It just takes a little practice and confidence.
Try this, I got one for my mini twin, works well, looks good and great service from Ghostbikes. Black Pro Range Heavy Duty Aluminium Rear Paddock Stand (B5066) - Bike Stands - Ghostbikes.com
Drinky, Thanks for the link I will give this one serious consideration,it looks like it will do the job fine!
I know what your saying about it being a two man job and I think it simply comes down to the stand and fulcrum point as different stands have different dimensions. I used to get someone to hold the bike while I put it on but ive developed the knack since then. Takes a bit of courage.
Good thread. Scary at first. Especially if hot exhaust. I pop mine up on rear and front after a ride. Easy to clean and check rubber. I've been a numpty though and bought a front stand to lift under the bottom yoke so I can drop the forks out (leaky Ohlins seal). One of those ones with a peg that locates into.........you're ahead of me. No hole in bottom yoke. So is it save up for an Abba? Sling a rope off garage roof? The dealer uses a nifty stand that has a long arm that puts a pad under the yoke and cranks a handle to wind the arm up. Very controlled. Probably £1000 though.
When I did my forks I used a cut down fence post I found in the garden and added another length back to the wall along the floor so that it wouldnt slip. Worked for me.
Mr C......to lift the front and remove the forks?? I have a front stand that locates under fork leg..... JC749 - I'm trying to work out where you put your fence posts? Sorry bit thick this morning. Did you drop the wheel out then just prop under the yoke using your fence post? I guess a 4" square would be quite stable .......
