just bought an 899 in white with red wheels to replace my 848 Corse SE. Had read all the reviews etc and all mentioned it to be a comfortable ride. Now as wonderful as this bike is to behold I have a problem. The stock seat causes me pain at the top of my inner thighs. I have looked at the comfort and race seat but they seem to have a similar ridge either side that I think is causing the problem . So I am starting to consider getting a stock 1199, 1299 seat as they look flatter. As anyone else tried this or had this problem? I have searched the forum and Google but can't find anyone saying they have had this issue.
I went from the 848 Corse SE to the 899, without any problem at all. In fact the 899 is much more comfortable than the 848 ever was.
I don't know what it is. Just feels like the seat is sticking in me. I'm 5ft 8 and everything I've read is it should be perfect. Early days yet. I will solve it. Shock of the new I guess.
This might sound strange but I had the exact same problem on my RSV4 (stock seat) ridges kind of dug into my inner thigh's.....I put up with it for ages and last year upgraded the ohlins shock to a Nitron Race Pro - problem went away....
Now that is interesting. Rode it for the first time on Saturday and the suspension settings were all over the place. Nearly shook my teeth out going through Sheffield. So I reset them to stock, then rode it again yesterday and today. Maybe it has bruised me and is still hurting from the first 2 hour ride. We will see. Nothing but rain for a few days so I have some recovery time.
went from the 899 to 1299 to be honest the seats are no different. you could go for the comfy seat ( which costs a fair bit) but I didn't so cant tell you anymore really.
Just to add once the shock was changed even the rest of the seat was more comfortable (in fact everything allround)....maybe taking it to a shop for a proper setup - ie with you there fully kitted and getting the sag correctly set...?
i went from 899 to 1199 and the 1199 seat seemed to slope down at the front, and under braking, i would slide forward into the tank.never had this on the 899,so the seats are slightly different.ive changed to the race seat and not had a problem. it is a little higher though
I've got a standard, comfort and race seat for my 899. Your welcome to come up and try them out if you want (Leeds). I'm away touring just now but will be back end of next week. Incidentally, I'm touring with the race seat as I preferred it over the comfort but everyone's different.
Likewise - I've got a stock and comfort 1299 seats if you want to try them too - I'm in Hampshire. Could even post you the post one if you want.
Had it fitted with the comfort gel seat on day one - but its not very comfy LOL I can't imagine what the standard one is like.:tired: After a 100miles or so I'm shifting around. I've done 450 miles in a day easily though, just stopping for petrol.
I'll be honest and say that I rode twice with the 899 comfort seat and found it LESS comfortable than stock... Honestly the stock seat for me is totally fine, but I had a 848 evo and agree that's got a totally flat seat which can sometimes be prefered. Perhaps try shifting your weight back a bit on longer stretches as if I end up camped right up the front it's less comfortable. The 1199 seat is really thin, u don't want to get involved in that! But the one thing about the 899 comfort seat is that even though it's taller it's a bit thinner width wise at the front. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think they're all the same between 899 and 1299. I found that standard makes me slide forward, comfort is higher at the front but still soft and I found myself still sliding forward but not as much, race is harder and higher at front but you don't really slide forward any more. You feel like you're sitting on rather than in the bike with the race seat but I've managed 900km in a day on it. Not sure I could do it on the others.
I had a seargent seat on the 848 and was pretty much flat but it was fine. I think I will persevere but have run to the dealers and see if they have other options I can try
