I'm currently pondering having some kind of protection put onto the paint on the Mutley. Anyone got any experience, recommendations as to who to do it & how much? Ta muchly.
Mornin' Rushjob, Ventureshield is great, I have it on my 1198s, My Wifes mini, and her TTS so I guess you can say we're fans, The TT is a motorway car and in 4000 miles have only had one stone chip, but to be fair my wife said it sounded like a bomb had gone off and has in fact dented the bonnet, so guess it was more like a rock than a stone. My Wife bought me the kit for my bike when she was having her mini done, I think it was about £85.00, Putting it on is a real pain, I am pretty patient and super OCD but with 2 kids time is limited, also you need a pretty dust free environment and strip lights everywhere! so....to try and cut a longer storey shorter, I wasn't happy with the result. So I booked it in with a company in Birmingham called Covertec, They were fantastic the two guys Andy and Iain were straight on it removing my old venture shield and replacing with new, and I think its one of those projects that unless you have loads of time, may well be left to others. The lighting is very important as they had strip lights all along the walls etc etc. They also used a number of different strengths of soap solution and denatured alcohol to ensure adhesion. Sorry, rambled on again, any questions just let me know. Maccaa
I thought of this, but being a yorkshire man went for the Oxford paint saver option. what a flippin nightmare to put on, even heating it up, Put it on the front shocker section at the bottom, looked crap and took it off. Tried it on panniers, the curves on the boxes dont lend themself to it, looked crap took it off. So in conclusion, dont do it yourself, if you really do want it !
1st post proper here so bare with.. fitting venture shield is a craft in it self, even if you have bought pre cut pieces. best left to those who know what there doing. and you stick to what you know your doing... simples my mates a good brickie, would i ask him to fit film ??? would i fcuk.
I'm not convinced this is needed on a bike, I had a car front end covered and it was very effective but obviously the car has a much bigger area exposed to the elements. For the tank to protect from scuffs from leathers or whatever then a tank pad and the Stomp Grip is a better bet I think. I wouldn't dream of fitting myself, it's not the fitting as such but the environment needs to be dust free and patience and experience seem essential for something that will look like a right mess if you get it wrong. realy easy on flat uniform surfaces, sides of tank/forks/fairings etc. its when you need to heat to form the problems arise. if anyone wants to try it themselves give me a shout, i,ll send you whatever size you need, at a reasonable price as well.
Andy, There's a guy working out of Nottingham fitting the stuff or supplying the kits for DIY. Dropped a flyer by the other day. I'll get the details to you.
It was fitted on my Multi when I bought it, it's had a Pikes Peak paint job so I guess the original owner wanted to protect it. I wasn't that happy with it to start with and I also found that it was hard to clean dirt away from the edges so it would show up one white areas. That said I park in a MC bay in central London with shithead scooter riders so hopefully it will save the odd ma
Any ducati dealers near London that do this ventureshield protection? I'd rather it was done by someone that has done it before because doesn't it involve cutting with a razor/sharp implement whilst on the bike?
I bought a full kit for my Speed Triple because Triumph's Crystal White paint finish has a reputation for chipping. All the pieces were pre-cut but there was no plan so work out what goes where before you start. I do know it needs to be the 3M product, which Venture Shield is, and not a cheap imitation. Conquest Carbon fitted mine for me because he's done stacks of them and he's an expert at it, and he lives 5 miles down the road. He made a flawless job of it so he's the man to ask for tips. I do know he cleaned the paint surface with brake cleaner first, used lots of luke-warm soapy water and his fingers rather than the little plastic tab you get in he kit. He got all of it perfectly aligned with no bubbles or foreign bodies. I tried fitting a clear tank pad to my SF the other day and made a right cock of it. Bubbles, wrinkles, fingerprints, dead flies and all sorts. I'm sticking to the spanners.
I have the kit fitted to the Panigale SL and 1098R. I bought it from Invisible Patterns of Golbourne Near St Helens. 01942 274026.
Had mine done from new by race by design. Worth it alone for the fact of not needing a tank protector other than the shield. Heel guards and tail guards have already saved the paint!
