Hi all, before anyone begins:wink: i've used the search function and have used a few big names in the past such as Rage Designs & Altamura with great satisfaction. However, Rage is not taking any jobs until November, and a few other places are quoting 400-500 for a paint job on a tank which i find a bit expensive? There is nothing to repair and is brand new carbon from tamburinicorse and i want it as original red with white letters- maybe with a few pin stripes to expose the carbon but nothing too much. I mean if that is what it costs for a tank, then i don't dare think of what it will cost for the carbon nose cone or side panels i have in mind... I'll be looking at nearly 1.5k without even spraying the tail or belley pan? Is this normal or "do i not know the right guys"? Just a bit shocked as i'm pretty sure in the other posts, it was around 250-350 for a tank...
Until Nov?! They didn't want the job for whatever reason... seems expensive but no idea if carbon is harder to paint
Carbon is not harder to paint but it does tend to be a bit of a one off job. You cannot continuously rub down carbon without going through the clear coat, I know, as I experienced it slightly when I wanted to paint an exposed carbon element in a repaired 998RS seat that had been really badly painted before. You could see some scratches in the carbon gel coat when it was finished. Having said that, then maybe, look for an alternative, anyone who knows what they are doing should be able to do the job. There are a lot of skilled painters out there, maybe try an airbrush artist might be able to do the job. Talk to them first and pin them down as to what they feel they can and cannot do.

I've been looking for a decent paint-sprayer for the Beater tank I've got arriving in March. Moto-Rapido recommended these guys to me: https://en-gb.facebook.com/pages/Image-Design-Custom-Ltd/151047818290154 I haven't had chance to speak to them yet, but they come highly recommended, and are based in Camberley.
I used Image Design Custom on the recommendation of Moto Rapido for my 851. Fairings, they did a fantastic job, can't praise them enough. Talk to Steve he will do you a deal.
i've had my fairing done and a whiteboard painted by steve at Apache Customs in Scunthorpe. was chuffed with the quality and an excellent price. hes on facebook and has some nice pics on there of recent projects
I think yr mistaken mate, as far as I know it's nothing to do with Altamura, had a chat with Steve when last there, they left to start their own business.
Mike @Rage will be in the throws of final designs for WSB/BSB teams and riders thus November timescales
Thats a piss take for a tank unless its an overly detailed design. See what these guys quote.... west midlands mind but might prove cost effective and worth a phone call.. Workshop
Had a similar issue, to the point where the painter , sure it was rage, told me cos it was world of carbon stuff he wouldn't want to do it, said he needed to see it....I think for the whole bike in original 996 livery was quoted at around £600 that was at least 2 years ago still looking but need someone in north west
Just been quoted £400 + vat for 2 998 side panels that have minor stone chipping on the lower leading edges, v piece and 2 mirror backs by dream machine. I've used Image superpaint refinishers near bradford before and would say his work is faultless.
i've paid about £350 for 2 fairing sides, nose cone and 2 mirrors, all done to a beautiful finish at Apache.
